View Full Version : Bionic Woman
Ohio_Southpaw 07-09-2007, 07:00 PM NBC has a 9 minute preview of the new "Bionic Woman" series premiering this fall. Still Jamie Sommers, but with some family differences. Also, they give her a bionic eye as well as the ear, arm and legs.
Looks promising, but that remains to be seen. I can see where it borrows some elements from "Dark Angel". I guess it's wait and see.

But where's Steve Austin?
dreamer 2.0 07-09-2007, 09:24 PM Dark Angel, Birds of Prey, La Femme Nikita...and, yeah, the central concept from the original TBW...even a swipe from Spider-Man. So, yes, wholly derivative. Not an ounce of originality in it. Looking at the pedigrees of the producers leaves me hopeful, but cautiously: David Eick, from the Galactica redux and American Gothic (woefully neglected, very good series); Laeta Kalogridis wrote the screenplay for Nochnoi Dozor (Nightwatch) and was writer/producer on Birds of Prey. BOP was endearing but most episodes played like a first draft, and never varied a whit from rigid formula.
I dunno, it looks like good fun if nothing new or inspired - I think I'm going to like it. And we've got a guest shot from Katee Sackhoff! I just hope it gets better supervision than BOP did.

But where's Steve Austin?
Cost overruns and procurement delays. Steve Austin now costs $18 million and won't be ready until 2011. :) :p

What bugged me with these bionic people is that they still had their normal spine. Pick up a car and see what happens to your back.
dreamer 2.0 07-10-2007, 07:44 PM I kept waiting to see Steve get a good bionic grip on a fast-moving car and see it yank his arm off his body.
big-dog 07-13-2007, 07:48 AM And busting handcuffs off with one bionic arm. Wouldn't the normal arm just break? Actually that's a rhetorical question, yes it would. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.
They got it right with Robocop, fully body prosthesis.

And Ghost in the Shell too. Major Kusinagi being a full-body cybor. And a hot one too! :D
The trailer looked pretty good, actually.
Griffworks 07-13-2007, 12:10 PM I'm hopeful on this one. Doesn't look like they're changing stuff up just for the sake of someone putting their mark on the subject.
scotpens 07-13-2007, 04:02 PM Hey folks, I heard the Bionic Woman and the Six Million Dollar Man got married! Wanna know what happened on their wedding night? They found out he's 110-volt and she's 220! No, make that he's Imperial and she's metric! Or he's AC and she's DC! Or maybe she's AC-DC!

Griffworks 07-13-2007, 05:01 PM (Throws tomato) Boo! New Commodian!
Atemylunch 07-13-2007, 06:32 PM I hate to say it, the TOS BW looks better. I wont be watching.

John P 07-14-2007, 08:48 AM Oh, I'll give it a watch just for the heck of it. But I've been deeply in love with Lindsay Wagner for many decades, so it'll have to be REAL good to impress me.

Yeah, that always bugged me too. I'm only willing to suspend my disbelief so far... :)
i always wanted a truck to back fire while she was tuning in that bionic ear and watch her eyes bug out of her head .
