View Full Version : New to Nitro-Best truck
Iwar3 07-04-2007, 12:32 AM I am looking to get some advise on where to start with Nitro Trucks. I am looking to start racing at some local tracks (Medina, Freddies). I have been leaning towards a 2 wheel nitro and was looking at the Jato 3.3. That truck seems to be a little to much for a beginner. I would like a truck that can be hopped up from stock as needed to be competitive, but will not go to pieces the first time i run it into the rail.
jbrow1 07-04-2007, 01:10 AM I would get either a losi AD1 or AD2 or the associated rc10gt2. The old gt is a good truck but the new one is so much easier to drive well on the track. If you want a nearly indestructible truck though the original gt is a tank and rarely breaks.
The jato is a cool truck but out of the box it's more setup as a fun go fast truck. You'd want to take the 2 speed out, get a different engine probably.. It's hard to find help with setups for it. My buddy had one and was much happier when he went with one of the other brands.
TOYMINATOR 07-04-2007, 09:35 AM Get a Losi AD2. I was an Asociated person all the way for the last 10 years. Now I own Losi's they dont fall apart or break on the race track like the GT and T4. They are durable and handle well. Plus you can get parts for them just about anywhere if you need to. I Spent Thousands of dollars in broken parts on my Asociated trucks through the years. My losi's have ran for almost Two months and not broke a single part.
badassrevo 07-04-2007, 11:01 AM If you want to race get a Losi AD2 or an Associated GT2. The Jato is more for fun.
Hangtime 07-04-2007, 12:04 PM I'm local & can hook you up. This is a great truck with 2- motors for a great price.

badassrevo 07-04-2007, 01:34 PM Rick is a good honest guy. His stuff is top notch. The truck looks beter than new. I would buy it befire I spent all that coin on a new one.
Iwar3 07-04-2007, 02:16 PM Hangtime..
Thank you for the offer and I might be able to take you up on that. I agree the truck looks great and just what I was looking for. I am excited at getting in to this hobby and look forward to getting to the track.
What other hardware would I need to get on the track? Like i said I am new and currently have no radio or other RC parts.
What track do you currently race at? I am planning on heading to Medina on Saturday to check the facility out.
badassrevo 07-04-2007, 02:45 PM He runs at Medina, I dont know what other stuuf he may have for the truck (starter box, fuel bottle, glow starter )
Any Radio would work, just my two cents get a Spektrum DX3.0 You will not have to upgrade later.
Iwar3 07-04-2007, 02:57 PM I will look ahead and see what I can find. Thank you for the advice on the Radio.
david18t 07-04-2007, 03:39 PM something servo wise of 2 jr 590's or better on the servos. i would do metal gear 70+ oz of torque and as much speed as you can afford
Iwar3 07-04-2007, 05:04 PM Sweet info on the servo's. What is a decent speed for a sevro? I know that quicker would be good but is not always better.
david18t 07-04-2007, 06:34 PM at least .15 .1 and under is a plus
Hangtime 07-04-2007, 07:58 PM You have a PM & two jr590's are included. He will need a starter guys. Mine sold last week.
Oh & thanks for the plug Badass!
ccm399 07-04-2007, 08:13 PM Rick where have you been?
We've missed you at the track!
Hope to see you soon.
Chris
Iwar3 07-04-2007, 10:42 PM WOW..
That Spektrum DX3.0 is a pricy one. I am looking at the cheaper end of the JR XR2i. Seems to be less expensive and with some features to it. That starter I am a little stuck on. If i understand correct the best is the starter box. The pull start just looks likea nice way to add weight, and the electric starters looks like something that could fail easy.
I have an xr2i, I'll let go cheap....
badassrevo 07-04-2007, 10:48 PM This is on the low cost side and it will work for the truck,

Papa- I have a couple of bids out on EBay for the JR radios with receivers. I will PM you if those fall through.
