I just joined the new forum to try and see where everyone is, this 1/4 scale thing is underground already and you have to really dig for info. Don't get me wrong, I like the 1/4 scale but it just seems like there is a lack of self promotion.

Cliff,

Visit QSAC.org. The link section pretty much covers everything we need. Even tracks such as GLQSR, Indy & LPR have good sites with mucho information on their link pages.

HobbyTalk is the best place to discuss 1/4 scale. I had a forum (QSARF) for several years that was dedicated to 1/4 scale. It would not hold a candle to H/T when it comes to visitor traffic. Why not use a good tool when it's free!!!

After reading into it, it seems that the new forum is primarily for the Carolina tracks.

Yea, I got that feeling as well but you would think the tracks there would like racers from other tracks to visit and would try to get themselves more in the mainstream

almost every track has a thread here this is were 95% of all racers go to find tracks and info we all want people to visit our home track there is nothing wrong with haveing a home page for your track and post it but it is when you get on one forum to advertise another just my .0003 cents worth

OK, I figured you guys would like my “opinion” on this. :dude:

In our TOS (terms of service) that everyone agrees to when they join HobbyTalk I have a guideline that there should be no posting of “visit my web site” type messages.

That guideline was made to try and limit the number of “drive by” posts by those that register just to promote their web site and are never heard from again. But of course we know that no one ever reads the TOS and even if they did, it wouldn’t stop those scum bags.

Even if something like that isn’t in the TOS, it is pretty much bad form to do so. I have never gone to another forum to promote HobbyTalk and I would hope I would get the same respect from others.

But I also look at the whole picture before I come down on someone. In this case I did let it stay even tho my “delete” finger was gettin’ real itchy! First it was posted by someone that has been around for a bit and has posted “normal” messages before this one. Next it was a promo for a track and I believe that tracks can use all of the help they can get in communicating with their racers.

BUT (notice the emphasis) ideally they should start a thread for their track on HobbyTalk and have a link on their web site to the thread they start. Why would they want to do that? Because it would get a lot of exposure for thier track because of our traffic and would prevent any “hard feeling” that might come about when they “spam” this forum. :)

Sorry for any hard feeling , I am new to the sport and just trying to get something good started for the local area. I will put the H/T link on my forum. I thought it was a good thing for the sport, sorry you don't.

This is for all. I race at carolina and clover each we so that is why it has a lot of that on it. Most of the guys are local and enjoy the forum.

Sorry Jeff, I wasn't flaming, I was trying to say what hank said in part. That being, start a thread for your track here with link to your site in your signature and that way internet flunkies like me can find you easily. Is there 1/4 scale racing happening in Easley this Saturday? I am really looking forward to coming to Clover for the east coast race!

Jeff,

No flames here either.

It's all about exposure. Check the forum hits you get in a full day and ask Hank how many he gets in one specific forum. It will suprise you.

I've been where you are now. I had a forum that was somewhat successful but lack the high traffic you see here. Nothing wrong with doing your part just as I did. Nothing wrong with promoting the sport you love. Good luck on the forum.

Tim

Thats cool, its probably my fault. I'm new at this, but love the 1/4 scale thing. Yes they are racing at easley this weekend but I have to go to a wedding. I will be at clover the following weekend. hope you come and we will be glad to help as much as possible. I'm wanting togo to the track in alabama. Bubba Coker and Ray Johnson were telling us about it. We will probably make the trip in Aug. We are not racing at carolina that month.

LPR is a blast for any scale, very smooth and a great bunch of guys. We are from Macon GA and have to drive 3+ hours to either CRC or LPR to race 1/4 scale but we own a track here in Macon for 1/10 scale cars as you can see in my signature. I hope to get to race my big car this weekend in Easley and also my 10th scale nitro. We will be in Clover on the 26th, hope we can find the track, lol.

There are no hard feelings, just trying to give you some pointers to help you out. Some other forum owners wouldn't have taken the time to try and explain what is expected and would have just delete & ban.

Like I said before, I think that tracks need all the help they can get.... if it would have been a link to a personal web site from a new member, I wouldn't have thought twice about deleting it.
