Like the song says another one bites the dust. After racing in Monroe and then following them to Pageland SC. Carolina SLot Car Raceway is gone. We need a track in the Charlotte area and we need someone to step up and help the cause. We have to be smart about opening up a shop and where and how its put in. I am willing to throw my hat in the ring and some others that I raced with are also willing to help as much as they can. We need to have a track somewhere the the Charlotte Mech, Huntersvillle , Mooresville , Indian Trail, Mathews, Monroe area. In this vast area there has got to be some people out there that want to race 1/24 scale slot cars. I my self am willing to buy a track but we need help placing it somewhere not to expensive for rent yet accessable to the public. This is a hobby of love and not money making. All we hope to do is pay the rent and electric and go from there. ALmost like a club atmosphere but something we want to get the kids involved in so they keep the hobby going. Please someone out there think about it and get back to me. My name is Mike Neff I live in Mooresville NC and my phone is 704-660-9422 or 704-579-0307. Please get back to me. I am also going to post something in Scale Auto and Old Weird Harold. We need this hobby in the area. THANKS

How about pooling resources (money) and getting a modular track that can be brought to a meeting place? It might be a hassle lugging it at first, but as your club grows maybe you could have members pay dues towards an eventual permanent venue. Start a group on Yahoo or something to keep people connected, post results, event schedules, etc. This would give you a real good idea of who will stay on and be serious about the venture and who won't. Also if you can make it work on a smaller scale it might also prove to a "landlord" that you have a viable way he can make some money too. I think you're right about the making money not being top on the list, but a potential host might think differently. I live in CT and there is a Hotwheels diecast group that meets once a month or so in a pizza joint. The owner is a collector, but if it was bad for business I don't think he would host the events. Start small and build it up. Maybe try not to take the whole end result on at first in just one big bite. I'm no business expert, but I've seen plans with grand ideas up front hit the skids pretty fast, and those that initially set smart targets grow and succeed. dave

There is a club in CT that built a portable track that they can set up & move for their events. You can see it at here. (http://www.slotcarcorner.com/Clubs/Shoreline/Gypsy.asp)
It might give you some ideas.

A noble cause. I've still got a box of 1/24th stuff. The commercial tracks in my neck of the woods (NW Ohio) have been gone going on ten years now. We tried to support 3 of them at one point, but most of the slotters were also RC car racers. I've been out of RC cars for years now and would delight at the chance to run my 1/24th stuff again. I've got the room in the basement for a 1/24th scale roadcourse, but I'm already heavily invested in HO and it gets the job done in a lot less space. There's one drag strip that I know of with a small HO roadcourse in the back room. the whole place smells like an ashtray. I've been in strip clubs that smelled cleaner...ugh.
Best of luck getting something going down there.

Mike,
If you have the "need for speed" you and any of your racing buddies can come join us "wee scalers"(HO scale) in NC. There are a couple of hobby shops that support the HO racing scene, here are their websites:
http://www.aandhhobbies.com/
http://www.pitstopraceway.com/
Also, there are several "home layouts" that provide some great racing. Ron Brna's track in Raleigh, Lewis Wuori's track in New Hill, and my 5' x 27' road course here in Winston-Salem. I'll try to post a few pictures.
