Dave Hussey 07-03-2007, 07:50 PM I spotted that at Futureshop the other day for $24 Canadian, an animated Batman, 16 episodes, featuring the voices of Adam West and Burt Ward.
I was about to buy it but I got distracted by the antics of my kid. Anyway, before I go back to pick it up, I thought I'd take the opportunity to ask youse guys if you've heard anything about this.

Er - why are my feet pointing backwards? :p
The Batman 07-04-2007, 02:38 PM I'm betting that these are the old Filmation Cartoons. When they first started to air, the voices of the Caped Crusaders were provided by Olan Soule' and Casey Kasem.

Later, when Batgirl and Batmite were added to the show, they got Adam West and Burt Ward to reprise their roles.
Ted Knight supplied the other voices - Penguin, Riddler, Joker, Commissioner Gordon, even narrating in his 'Ted Baxter' voice, etc...

PerfesserCoffee 07-05-2007, 07:01 AM What did the Batmobile look like in this series?
Dave Hussey 07-05-2007, 08:02 AM My kid is 4 and might enjoy this. I'm just wondering though if I would find it too kid-oriented for me to enjoy too.
Dunno about that batmobile - its proabably black tho..........;)

Actually, the original cartoon was done by another company in the 60's. Filmation bought all of the animation masters and character designs for the new show. They changed the look of Commisioner Gordon and could not use the Riddler as a villain in their show.
ABC had the rights to show Batman as a member of the Superfriends, and on that show Casey Kasem DID do the voice of Robin. This was the only time in TV history where a licensed character appeared on two seperate networks at the same time.
Oh, and the Batmobile was solid black with a blue bat on the hood. It had a flat front gray grill and a red interior. The front windshields were modeled after the 60's BM, but the rest was pure Filmation. In the first episode, the Joker steals a car that runs on water, and it looked exactly like the BM except that it was yellow and had a flat windshield and no bat-wings on the rear quarter panels.

Sorry to disagree but, I remember the cartoon being a Filmation production from the very beginning. To back me up, a little Googling produced this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filmation's Batman
Hot off the heels of ABC's live action series, CBS hired Filmation (famous in the 1980's for cartoons such as He-Man and Fat Albert, among others) to produce animated episodes of Batman and incorporate them into the studio's already popular The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure.
Knocking Aquaman out of the title, Batman continued where the ABC series left off and introduced new villains of its own such as Simon the Pieman. The Joker (voiced by the late comedy straight man Ted Knight) made numerous appearances, as did other villains such as the Penguin, the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and the first ever non-comic appearance of the Scarecrow!
During the initial 1968-1969 run of the series, Filmation made 14-minute episodes and, to a lesser extent, 7-minute episodes. The longer episodes would be interrupted in the middle to give the same "cliffhanger" appearance that the ABC series did. The shorter episodes were able to fit into the show without commercial interruption.
The Batman episodes were syndicated to local television stations, had a one-shot video release from Warner Home Video, and from 1995 to 1997, were regularly seen on USA Network's The Superman/Batman Adventures, which featured other DC Comics cartoons by Filmation and about half of the Hanna-Barbera Super Friends library. These same Superman/Batman Adventures episodes are now appearing as a part of Cartoon Network's sister network Boomerang. For completests of these Batman episodes, it should be noted that Warner Bros. occasionally edited a few seconds from random episodes.

You are right, in the documetary on "The New Adventures of Batman", Scheimer said that they had the original character setups and such from the original series. So the moves of the characters were identical to the 60's series. I mis-heard them on my first viewing of the doc.
The Batman 07-05-2007, 10:12 PM Ah! But at least we understand why you got that impression! That explanation makes perfect sense!
I think I'd like to get hold of this dvd set myself and check it out. It sounds fun!

terryr 07-06-2007, 04:18 PM I have an urge to make batfinks car. Easy project anyway. Just get a V-dub and put batwings on the rear fenders.
What was it called anyway? The Finkwagen?
