I am going to replace my directv dvr . Is there anyway I can save the movies I have on this dvr, possibly by moving them to my pc,and burning dvds?
And how do they connect? Thanx

this is what i found:

If you have a DirecTV Tivo DVR then you can modify it pretty easily so that it can be networked to your homes wired/wireless network, this will allow you to transfer the shows/movies as a file to your networked PC, Edit out the commercial, and burn to DVD.

If you have a DirecTV DVR+ (Their newest models, and the R15, and the R10) you can possibly use a DVD Recorder connected like you would a VCR and copy the shows/movies to DVD, this will make it harder to edit out any commercials though. Also it can only record in real time, if it is a hour long show it will take at least the hour to record it onto the DVD Recorder. Another option is to purchase a PCI TV Tuner Capture Card for your Desktop, then conenct coaxail cable or other output types connections from your DVR to the PC's TV Tuner cpature card. Hit play on the DVR and record on the TV Tuners software to save it to your PCs hard drive. Then you can edit it and burn it to DVD. Again this can ONLY be captured in real time.

Of course there is one other way, that is to feed the very good
quality S-Video Analog Signal to a capture device attached or
built into his laptop. (The sound too of course.)

Another would be to feed the S-Video to a Standalone DVD
Recorder and use RW Disks to bring it to the laptop.
Refurbished units cost about the same as a good capture card/
USB2 box.

I'm in the old age, I dont have DVR..
