View Full Version : Novak's exchange program
gezer2u 06-28-2007, 04:47 PM Novak has an replacement/upgrade/exchange program for all of our BL motors and speed controls:
Quote:
NOVAK'S BRUSHLESS MOTOR EXCHANGE PROGRAM: Customers returning a Novak brushless motor on the list below for non-warranty exchange can request a different model Factory-Remanufactured brushless motor. The additional service fee is only $10. For example, a customer can return a #3405 Velociti 5.5R motor and request a Factory-Remanufactured #3413-2 SS13.5 Pro motor for an exchange price of $45 ($35 + $10 fee). Indicate model and Service Code (M) on Non-Warranty Service Form.
Read this on the Arcor section and thought some might be interested. This is a good deal and you have to give them credit!

Whenever I do the math on that exchage program it comes out cheaper to sell the old motor and buy a new one.
Andy Koback 06-28-2007, 06:54 PM Providing the old motor still runs, right?
NovakTwo 06-28-2007, 07:03 PM Providing the old motor still runs, right?
No, running or not running...
Andy Koback 06-28-2007, 08:45 PM I was referring to the way Ta_Man does it. lol
swtour 06-28-2007, 09:26 PM It may work to sell the old motors - but it's COOL that NOVAK is also giving you the choice to send it in...(They could basically say SCR * W YOU, buy a new one - like SO MANY Companies do when you find out you didn't really buy the right product for you)
ALL of the B/L motors I've got so far - I've bought used...because THAT's MY Race budget. (If I have money to spend...I try to spend it on the SERIES not MY racing)
I have some sintered, some not, some OLD style solder tabs, some new... The cool thing is..ALL of these motors have been in AWESOME condition, for a GREAT price. (That's because so many traders on HOBBYTALK have such good stuff, and are so competitive they like keeping their equipment FRESH)
Think about it - BUY a NEW motor for what $80.00? Use it 4-6 months (maybe 12-13 Race Days), sell it for $50 - $60 bucks (with sintered) MOTOR EXPENSE for those 12-13 races $1.60 - $2.40PER RACE DAY (Or if you want to really break it down $0.40 - $0.60 per HEAT.)
boatanchor48 07-06-2007, 01:27 PM Is the 17.5 available for the exchange program?
Not when I check about a week ago.
swtour 07-06-2007, 03:51 PM Good question - but since the 17.5 is a NEW motor - and the exchange program is based on a 'reman' motor - there won't be any reman'd 17.5's to exchange for.
(Don't forget if you do the 17.5's in a group buy - you save $5.00 per motor in a 4 pack and when you split up the shipping between 4 purchasers you save even MORE $$$)
trailranger 07-07-2007, 06:53 AM Also I have heard the exchange options are available for GTB speedos to replace with one of the the many (GTB, GTB 4C, GTB w/ LiPO, GTB Spread Spectrum, GTB HV?)
Another great thing about the upgrade is no one is getting left behind with the frequent and uncertian future of brushless classes. This "buy-up" program allows the racers who are on the fence waiting for the brushless classes to get set in stone can now jump into the races now. If the race classes or technology changes later, they have a cheaper way of making the change. Starting next week, our lockal track will be adding 13.5 1/12 touring.
can you say TOO MUCH TO HANDLE?
Now only if I can get them to replace my SS for a GTB!!!!
Is the $10 service charge per motor or just per a order?
swtour 07-07-2007, 07:39 AM Not fully sure - but here is the link to the NOVAK Exchange Program on their web site

jeff@vinyltrix 07-08-2007, 09:51 AM question about brushless systems.
can you use any brushless esc with any brushless motor.
i have a stock super sport. can i run a 13.5 motor through it or do i have to stick with
a 4300 or a 5800 motor.
pmsimkins 07-08-2007, 10:59 AM Yes, you can run a 13.5 with it, no problems.
swtour 07-08-2007, 02:51 PM Jeff,
If I've read the specs correctly - you can run anything 8.5 or milder (ie: 10.5, 13.5, 17.5) with the supersport (That's for 6 cell ratings) I don't know if you can run anything hotter on only 4 cells or not (but since most are slowing down - not speeding up anyway - you should be covered)

I'm not sure of the answer, so i'll let someone else explain.

i forgot to add i race 6 cell dirt oval. so a 13.5 or 4300 would probably be the max.
erock1331 07-09-2007, 11:40 PM Has anyone had any luck with their remanufactured Speedo's ?
I sent in a GTX for a refurbised one and it lasted one weekend before the fets gave out on me. I was only running stock oval and was 3 tenths off a fresh speedo.
abdule 07-10-2007, 10:00 AM ooooooooops! almost 3 weeks to get a 13.5 wire hareness repaired.
abdule 07-10-2007, 07:14 PM all is good, motor is back and repaired ........no charge.....great service
OUTSIDER6 07-17-2007, 10:59 PM I bought 2 rotors 2 weeks ago, and used the Zubak speed meter to check the magnets, i got the following readings 1186 and 1145.
I also had Mr. Zubak himself check the rotors and he had the same readings as i did.
Rotors are brand new never installed in the motor yet.
Anyone out there seen this.
Looking to get some more info about the brushless stuff.
I also tried another meter and still reads low, i have other rotors that read fine on this meter, just strange that brand new rotors, out of the package read so low.
thanks for any info that anyone may have............... Jorge Moreira
swtour 07-18-2007, 12:40 AM ...those must be the low torque HI SPEED versions - for big track racing, instead of carpet tracks...
Echeconnee 07-24-2007, 09:24 AM Chassis, Chassis, Chassis! You guys are worrying too much about the wrong stuff. All that meter does is stir up $H1T! It does read rotors like they say it does but a Fantom dyno read motors too and that wasn't much help either, lolI bought 2 rotors 2 weeks ago, and used the Zubak speed meter to check the magnets, i got the following readings 1186 and 1145.

OUTSIDER6 07-24-2007, 08:17 PM Just like we use Gfx to test batteries, some use this meter to try and see if all the rotors areabout the same.
Practice and car set up will always come first.
Novak claims that all rotors should be about equal. Just my 2cents. Jorge Moreira

Scroll down to the bottom of this page. Steve checked 20 13.5T SS Pro motors at random and posted the results along with a graph. I have suggested a couple of clarifications, but the results are interesting.

crisis641 07-25-2007, 02:18 PM NovakTwo, Can we get the 17.5 ss pro motor through this exchange program? I don't see them listed on the sheet but could we put in the correct part number and get one?
swtour 07-25-2007, 02:22 PM ...I'll let NOVAK give the correct answer, but I believe the exchange program gives you a 'rebuilt' motor...and since the 17.5 is a NEW motor, I'm going to doubt there has been any sent in to be rebuilt yet.
...if the answer is YES - I think I've got 3 old school 4300's that may get sent in...LOL
98Ron 07-25-2007, 03:06 PM From the looks of the upgrade charts, I can't upgrade my 5800 or 4300, discontinued product. So SW get a grip on getting any 17.5, I would love to upgrade but

Yes you can, we still remfg the old motors. The "replacement cost" is the Option 1 price. The "upgrade cost" (motors w/code M) is the Option 1 price of the motor you want plus $10.00.
As for adding the 17.5T---good question. I'm sure no one---certainly not me!---thought about it. I'll check and let you know. Probably, some time next week. The cost would be the same upgrade price as the SS Pro's $45.00
swtour 07-25-2007, 05:23 PM Cool - ~~~
(I Love that we can get our questions answered right here...thanks guys~~~)
98Ron 07-26-2007, 11:19 AM Novak two, please help me understand, I am just a simple georgia boy.
I have a SS5800(#3400) I would like to exchane for upgrade to a 10.5(#3410).
I would use a Non-Warreanty service form, complete steps 1 thru 3.
In step 4 select option 3, indicated #3410. The change would be $35 for option 1 of #3410 and $10 dollars for the option 3 upgrade, plus the shipping and handling from step 6.
I was confused because the 3400 SS5800 had no enrty in the option 3 column.
NovakTwo 07-26-2007, 12:06 PM Don't feel badly---every time I answer a question, I have to open the page and re-read the Options.
The Option 3 column doesn't have any use in this type of exchange. You correctly chose the Option 1 price and added the $10 upgrade fee--sounds like you figued it out OK.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Indicate model and Service Code (M) on Non-Warranty Service Form.

katf1sh 07-30-2007, 07:28 PM i wonder if you send it a motor for repairs will you get back one with the new 13mm rotor or the same one you sent in?
if you choose the 35.00 replacement route that is.

if you choose the 35.00 replacement route that is.
If you choose Option 1 (35.00), you will get a rmf version of exactly the same motor you returned for replacement.
The new rotors are optional equipment. Novak has no plans to offer them factory-installed in the motors.
katf1sh 07-30-2007, 10:16 PM very cool.....
ok will novak in 2008 make the new 13mm rotors standard issue in either the 13.5 or the 10.5 motors? or will those always just be an option part?
thanks bill

any update on this?

Mike I talked with someone at Novak and they said it wasn't included in the exchange program.
