It is great fun to do. Lots of repro parts and decals available. Let's have some opinions. What is the harm of taking a 25 cent beater and repainting it?

I have done HW of course. I knew where to get repro parts. Have some very nice restos. Matchbox has been coming more into my collection lately because they make castings that I like as of late. I have some older MB that need to be restored but was not aware that you could get parts for them. It is cool that you can.
Any info on where to get the parts? Thanks for the topic. I will be watching.

No harm , in fact lots of fun.I have resprayed most of the surviving cars i have from my childhood before the age of 8, plus some interesting beaters that have come into my hands. This hobby is all about having fun your own way, although some collectors take repainting or detailing to extremes - one dealer i buy from last year had a mint boxed Dinky Ford Capri in metallic purple that nobody would give him $20 for so he cut the roof of it and made it a convertible :freak: I told him that i could have given him a beater plus some cash if I had known his intentions.....
I need Hotwheels replacement hoods for redlines Mustang,Thunderbird and a Barracuda -is there anyone that accepts paypal and will ship these parts to europe that you know? Cheers Mick
Tom!
We all know that, there's a risk that down the road, a future owner of a restored Matchie will try to pass it off as a rare original!
However, I truly believe that adding life to a beaten casting is always a noble and creative action. Either that or the smelter.

I see no problem with restoring them as long as you don't present them as original. I have a few that could use a makeover. The ones you posted look great. You should've taken some before shots to show the difference.
Thanks for the info on parts, I need to send for a list.

Those restored one look really great!!!
I also like well loved originals no matter how beat or perfect -
I like 'em all the same! Beat ones just seem to speak to me though.
