Monday night was the first night I was able to get out in about 3 weeks and watch some racing over at Martin Simone's house. It was the 4th in a series of 10 races using the Evolution sprinter I did for the Tomy and X-Traction cars. That nights events saw them on the pancake cars on the 6 lane flat track. Martin pretty much tore everyone up and the new cars handled beautifully.
I had back surgery and have a plate and 3 screws in my lower back now. During the surgery or shortly after it the plate moved and has been putting pressure on a nerve that goes down my left leg. As a result it (the leg) don't work very well anymore. I have a corrective surgery the weekend after the 4th so I'm hopeful that will make the difference. I have a really nice custom painted electric scooter though, I'm worning how to get some neo magnets for it now, I've already for some Goodyear lettering for the tires, and some ape-hanger handle bars.
Anyway, Martin's new 6 lane flat track is very nice, wide open and with a generous run-off area before hitting custom molded foam barriers he made with expanding insulation material and latex molds. They are light, easily deformed by impacts but they don't shatter like styrofoam will. They look like the concrete barriers used in construction zones. He uses a 6 lane infra-red optical lap counting and timing system that is a bit like Gregory Braun's program but better. The computer automatically cuts the 12v G-Jet power once the race is done.
I haven't had much contact with these guys since the mini-Indy other than to have them come pick up cars that I had already molded before my surgery. I haven't done anything since June 6th except try and heal. Marty, your Ferrari 333P is still on my workbench though, it has been painted and the windows done, I'm just waiting for a good day to finish it up for you. I'll try to get to it soon. But the cars I got to see race were nicely painted and gave me some inspiration to have the wife set up my race case and go through some of my cars and get one ready for next week. I'll try and get some pictures of my car and those of the other guys.
