Alright, I am looking into building a flat carpet track for this winter and had a few quetions.
1) What size is suitable for 10th scale oval. ( ie ouside dimensions say 24x64 or 40x80)
2) Is it possible to install carpet and remove carpet on a weekly basis for racing ? And how long would this take? (Not my prefered option but I have a building to use that I could rent on a daily basis.)
3) Also I have been out of pancar racing for years, so what is the most popular classes I 'm guessing 4cell stock? which leads me to my next questions.
4) Is brushless accepted in stock racing say 13.5 against stock brushed motors?
5) I'm looking into a fresh area to race so I'm looking for an afforadable class or spec class any sugestions would be great.
Thanks for your time any any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Jeff

1. There tracks are as small as 24'x64', 40'x80' would be more popular.
2. Yes, and the amount of time depends on how much help you get.
3. Where are you located? It is very dependent on location. If you are in the midwest brushed racing no longer exists here. In the Northeast 4 cell stock is by far the biggest. In the South there is a mix, but moving towards BL.
4. There are places that allow it if the turnout is small, but they can't really compete well together. The 13.5 is a fair amount faster then brushed stock.
5. If you are in the Northeast they run a SK class. You can research and find the details. That is a very popular "spec" class there, if you can call it that. Otherwise I'd suggest starting a class using the new Novak 17.5 motor and 4 cell.

Jac9 the guys at the stran in Mcadoo PA roll out the track every race day and literally roll it back up afterwards. Now I'm hoping you'll be doing this track(if it happens) somewhere close to or in Maryland cause if so I know of about a dozen racers that could come to race.
The larger size would be nice but if the building only allow for a smaller track hey small's cool.
I think personaly that 13.5 and brushed stock should be kept seperate if the number of racers will support the split.
One thing you did'nt ask about is a lap counting system ...if you can do it try to get a AMB system that accepts personal transponders. Personals save alot of headaches for racer and track director.
Good luck where ever you set up !
Thanks for the inputs guys keep them coming.
BTW my location is central PA in Huntingdon County. Zip 17052
The only reason I was asking about laying out the carpet on race day is because I'm pretty sure I can rent a large I mean LARGE!!! building and race in it on a weekly basis. ( the other option is to build a building and as of right know the size for the building would be 40x80 and the track size say 34x70) But I think I may be better to rent the building for this winter to se how it goes then build next summer.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks Again
Jeff

If it were my money I'd definitely rent first.
I'm not from that area, but from reading the forums it seems like there are quite a few tracks in the PA area. Make sure to coordinate your schedule with any tracks near you.

Rent the building by all means, much less over head costs! Our local track was at an "Eagles" club for many years, track went up in about 1/2 hour. Duct tape the seams and a few spots on the outside edges. Outside wall and in field walls were PVC pipe. Good luck!

By what I see through randmcnally maps it looks like a trip or 2 there could happen if the track is going to run oval on saturdays. It's about 3 hrs to get to Bedford PA from here near Baltimore. We'de more than likely turn it into an overnight trip.
A couple other suggestions for you on your track. When it comes to traction compound make it oderless type like Jack the gripper, the TQ 8 line or anything that has no smell. There are folks out there who are alergic to the wintergreen smell of the older compounds. The other being if you make it a reality try to use ozite carpet. I think you can get it from Calandra racing concepts....... at least I think you can.
