View Full Version : Why did they do that?

I had an AutoFest Mustang blister that was just beyond repair so i opened it. After I rolled the car around for a spell, I decided to take it apart since the base is screwed on and take a look at the parts. Now we all know FC have no opening features but I was really surprised to find out the hood on the Mustang is a seperate piece from the casting. A quick Dremmel grind on the two rivits and that hood would pop right off.

My question is, why two pieces? If there is no intention to place a motor or make it open why not mold it as a solid piece saving labor and time? On the other hand, if it is seperate, why not mold more than one hod for different variations.....hood scoops, Shelby hood, stock etc or leave the hood off and add a Spolier type motor sticking out?

Just wondering on a slow day.

Dear All:

It seems the Mattel is playing the same game, for one of their basic cars has a motor, but the hood is sealed shot. That I do not understand, too.

Would it be to make the casting more realistic? If it is was 1 piece, wouldn't it look kinda weird with paint over the seams where the hood is? If it is 2 pieces doesn't it look like the hood could open? But I haven't seen these yet. I'm guessing it looks better this way.

i would have to guess that something is comming down the road.
doing it sepratly allowes them to just recast the hood with hinges. much cheaper in the long run instead of recasting the whole body. i think it was a good call doing it this way.

not all have paint in between the spokes, "Why did they do that"?
My #113 Red/Black stripes has the front rims painted in,nothing on the back.
#113 with white stripes neither front nor back have paint.
This looks ODD...

Thankfully the one (not a #113, much lower..wink) with the Red tires is perfecto!
Still glad I bought these, they're sugar...

I think that will come out again as part of the series they currently have out with opening hoods.Engine Revealers or something like that is the name of the series.

I agree with gunn. Maybe big plans for hinged hoods and engines in the future?
