Found this while cleaning the die cast room. Can not for the life of me remember where/when/why I bought this. What I was wondering is there more of these (diff. castings) and if they are hard to come by?

I have 38. I believe there were 30 models in the range plus color variations and some casting variations. They were an English (European?) only release about the same time as the US superfast range with the starburst wheels. Late 80's is my recollection. Many of the same models were used in each range.

I'm Not Sure If They Were An English Only Release. I Have 4 Or 5 Laser Wheels That In Got At K-mart And Zayres Back In The Late 80's I Believe.they Did Differ In The Packaging.i Rememeber They Were More Kid Friendly Packaging.might Have Been Mid 80's Now That I Think About It.

There were 24 models released in 1986 in Europe that were basically the same as the Superfast set of 24 exclusive to USA from 1985 that had starburst wheels. However, in many cases, a plain paint color would become metallic for the Laser Wheel version. In 1987, a further 6 models were released and a few of the original 24 were recolored. As stated, there were also a few casting differences (like a Ferrari Testarossa that has detailed rear lights or smooth rear lights).

It does appear that some places in USA did manage to get some of these Laser Wheels.

The series was dropped in 1988.

:) :D :p

Dear All:

I got mine in the 1980's and I knew about this series, based from the Matchbox Catalogs and liteature, but not how many were made but I have listings from the Laser Wheel Vehicles.

Before the Tyco takeover and when this swap meet existed (it been centered in Long Beach Airport and then Buena Park,California;closed 2002) I used to meet this Matchbox dealer which also will supply the Catalogs which were made regulary before the Tyco years (he also had Trax models in his stand, and as I am making a Matchbox lineup report, I understand why that was so); after Tyco took over, I did not saw him any longer.

I have the Peugeot Quasar Concept with the Laser Wheels. That is all. When my listings will be completed (I hope soon, but I know, there are many articles to report) I hope to get more items from that series.

This is a great casting in its own right, dating from 1969 and introduced with regular wheels.Sure would be something to see many of the different issues lined up together, the many different whitecars, then the Firechiefs in red, and the black & whites issued after the demise of Lesney
