How little can a push rod be bent to throw tolerance out? Have a 25 hp Tecumseh V twin. On A White. Stays running After about 4tries turning choke off and dies when turn on deck. Think push rod is bent but not much.

Best thing to do is replace it after determining why it bent and taking care of that reason. If you just want to keep using it the way it is, then at least adjust the valve lash to it's proper setting. birdchaser 06-19-2007, 08:54 PM Thanks. The more I look at it and spin it I'm not sure, but it looked bent at first glance. Wanted to take it out but don't know the lash on it. 30yearTech 06-19-2007, 10:49 PM Post back with model and spec number of engine. I can then better explain the procedure for valve adjustment. birdchaser 06-20-2007, 07:06 AM Post back with model and spec number of engine. I will try to locate some service specs on it if I can and get back to you. From looking at the illustrated parts list on this engine it looks to be pretty much the same as most OHV engines. You would need to loosen any locking screw or nut on the rocker arm and then set the clearance on the rocker and valve and tighten the locking screw/nut back down. I am not sure what the lash settings are for this engine at this time. birdchaser 06-23-2007, 09:04 AM It is ohv. On a White 2550. v-twin. birdchaser 06-23-2007, 04:31 PM 30Year Tech. Found cross referance for engine, it is OV691EP. Believe I bought in '04. Also Checking valve lash on left bank the bottom valve (exhaust?) was .012 with piston at tdc. Should this be at btdc? Thanks for any info or help you can give. Just spent 600$ on wifes car! Unless you got alift you just can't do some things on these. No more front wheel drives for me! 30yearTech 06-23-2007, 11:24 PM Check at TDC or just slightly past TDC. .012 sounds like too much clearance on an OHV but I don't have the specs for this engine. birdchaser 06-26-2007, 07:13 AM Valves checked out ok. My son put kerosene in the tank. Just happened to move the kero can Sat. and it was empty. Only about a gallon in can, maybe gallon 1/2 in mower. Musta took about 15 minutes to get agitated enough before she started smoking and wouldn't take a load anymore, like the mower deck.
