View Full Version : NOVAK - Brushless Motors
swtour 06-18-2007, 08:51 PM We all know that currently NOVAK is THE motor to have for your Brushless Oval Racing.
The 4300/10.5 4 cell class is very popular in many areas, and the 13.5 motor is growing in popularity as well, but even some are finding this motor a little faster than their comfort level.
Most oval racers have found virtually ANY of the HOT MOTORS are nearly TOO FAST for fun controlled racing, but they are very exciting to watch in the right hands.
We can now say 'THANK YOU' to Novak for working with a group of oval racers looking toward the future of racing using LIPO batteries.
NOVAK has developed a 17.5 motor, and it has gone through some intense testing, and will continue be be tested more and as much as is possible.
This motor perfoms very on the 3200 Peak/Orion style sealed LIPO has performed very close to a Pro-10.5 version motor using 4 cell NiMh packs.
...with ALL that being said - NOVAK Has announced this new 17.5 motor CAN be made available NOW and with enough requests they will offer it through their SHOPATRON section on their web site...in both a XBR version (non-sintered rotor) and a Pro-17.5 version (w/ sintered rotor)
So if YOU are interested in this type of motor CONTACT NOVAK
That sounds like great news. Have they tested anything slower, Like maybe a 19 turn. Just wondering.
abdule 06-18-2007, 10:42 PM That's good to have another motor (even if it's some what slower),but I hope they don't stop making the 13.5 For thoes that have been around for awhile, the 13.5 is just right. If the 10.5 does fade away like it appears it might, well then the 17.5 could be like a stock class.
gezer2u 06-19-2007, 09:03 PM Yeah, the 17.5 w/ 4 cell could be used as a stock replacement, SWT has tried it and it seems to be slow enough. But it can also be used with LIPO'S and will run as fast as 10.5 w/ 4 cells! Email Charle at Novak and let him know what you think about the 17.5, PLEASE. Tech@teamnovak.com or CS@teamnovak.com Lets move this forward.
NovakTwo 06-19-2007, 10:11 PM Today Novak ordered up our first production run of the 17.5T SS Pro motors. We need to have labels, packaging samples, part numbers, etc. For small quantities, we will have to use the black timing ring---a different color ring can be made in the future, if quantities permit.
We do not plan to offer this item through distribution at this time. We will offer it through Shopatron and hope to have it listed next week. The price should be the same as the other SS Pro motors---currently $82.99. We may also offer it in case quantities (4 motors) for a discount, if buyers want to join together and purchase a case. What do you think?
Do you forsee a demand for bonded rotors? If so, we can add some EXs to the SAT listings, but I'm not sure how popular that rotor will be.
swtour 06-19-2007, 11:35 PM I don't know about a market for the non-sintered EX style motor, but it is possible, cause it would give guys the option to buy it, try it and upgrade it if they want...and if for some reason they didn't like it, they would not be out a huge investment...
I was hoping to have more 4 cell data for this motor by now, along with some TOURING info...but it seems like time has been flying by in WARP (Brushless) speed.
I do also like the CASE LOT purchase idea too. This could help out some of the clubs thinking about a motor like this.
I'm hoping we can get some data moving on the other "TEST" motors soon too, so we can find that 'PERFECT' LIPO based OVAL STOCK motor.
brian0525 06-20-2007, 09:28 AM Great news!!!
Echeconnee 06-20-2007, 10:43 AM I would only do the motor as a sintered rotor motor. I will get mine as soon as they are available, by the case too!
98Ron 06-20-2007, 10:59 AM Me too, brushless/lipo, life is good!!
gezer2u 06-20-2007, 06:14 PM Cool! I reread your post and saw that they should be on Shopatron next week. That's great news. I'll be waiting!!
Thanks Novak!!!
swtour 06-20-2007, 07:41 PM NOVAKTWO,
I know Novak is big on packaging to help the products jump out at us on the shelf of the hobby shops - but with this motor being offered on Shopatron - I doubt anyone of these guys would mind if it were only packaged in a soft bag with a header card (like a rebuilt unit would be sold) Especially if it helped reduce production costs, and end user costs at the same time... Either way - I know a handful of guys are already fairly excited about this motor being released. Hopefully that handful will turn into a decent size crowd...
(geezer - I sent the motor for Josh to run Friday - but didn't get it in the mail until this morning...it should be there intime ....keeping fingers crossed)
NovakTwo 06-21-2007, 01:31 PM NOVAKTWO,

We already have 17.5T motor labels and will be packaging them in the SS Pro clamshells. I have suggested uploading the listing on SAT soon so that we can take pre-orders and schedule the winding. Initially, we will be offering only the sintered rotor version.
Eventually, if the demand is strong enough, we can encourage distributors to carry the 17.5T. It may be that clubs and tracks around the country will test various winds and select motors for their own members based on various, local needs. That way beginners can start with the slower motors and progress to fewer winds as their proficiency increases.
We have also listed some rmf GTB speed controls in Great Deals.
gezer2u 06-23-2007, 12:38 AM The 17.5 is on Shopatron (http://www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=3417/135.0.8180.0.0.0.0)! I just ordered mine, what about you? :)
swtour 06-23-2007, 01:22 AM ORDER 4 and save $5.00 EACH
NovakTwo 06-24-2007, 12:35 PM The 17.5 is on Shopatron (http://www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=3417/135.0.8180.0.0.0.0)! I just ordered mine, what about you? :)
You beat me to it. Thanks for posting the link!
swtour 06-24-2007, 03:01 PM NOVAKTWO and NOVAK Crew
A PERSONAL Thanks - I don't know where this motor will go - but I've stated on many sites that w/ the 17.5, if you have one of these plus a 13.5, a 10.5 and any ONE of the HOT MOD type motors you'll be set to run virtually ANY of the speeds now offered with 4 cell BRUSHLESS racing.
Once testing is finished with the NEWER Test Motors - It will add ONE MORE motor to the mix and there will be a full gammit of motors that can also be used for very close to 4 cell speeds with the use of the LIPOS.
gezer2u 06-24-2007, 09:59 PM I said that I would be waiting! Was I the first to order? That is what I was shooting for! :jest:
Seriously, thanks for taking the time to post here and on RCTech!

Wondering how many are being made on the first run and how are sells going?

Yes, indeed. You were the first-----of two people ordering!
But this forum is the only place that the info has been posted.
swtour 06-27-2007, 02:43 PM I see that web site now shows these are READY - so they are now good in stock and ready to ship.
I know Josh ordered one - and I believe another one of our STOCK guys ordered one...
I've got 3 or 4 more guys wanting - but we've got a couple big deals coming up (and I know some are saving their money for the 2 day entries) so I expect to see a few more of this hit the market the first part of AUGUST...
Come one guys - give this motor a SHOT - I think you will be plesantly suprised with it's power, and speed, and ease of driving if you like STOCK type speeds...or the idea of the LIPO batteries at 10.5 speeds. (I know a lot of guys are still on the fence w/ the LIPO deal too)
brian0525 06-27-2007, 03:13 PM Should be 4 or 8 headed to our track soon!
pascooter 07-04-2007, 11:22 AM Most of the discussion has been about 4-cell. We have a dirt oval, 167' driveline, that we use 19t fixed timing motors and 4200nmhi. Can you give me some comparisons to this situation. I would like to start running the brushless in with these classes. any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
swtour 07-05-2007, 09:39 PM 6 cell 19t and 6 cell 10.5(4300) are probably pretty similar on Dirt Oval - don't know for sure - it's been way too long since I did any dirt oval racing...and last time I did I ran OPEN MOD w/ a 4 cell on a BIG track and switched back and forth with that and a 6 cell 19t deal and it was fun.
I would think though on a 160+ ft track something like the 13.5 or maybe the 17.5 motor would be a killer class - controllable and drivable...but now a 3.5 STRAP IT IN and HOLD ON! Whoooooa
swtour 10-09-2007, 04:26 AM Props to NOVAK on their 17.5 motor... This thing has created a NEW excitement in a couple different areas of OVAL racing, plus there are several On-Road groups looking at this motor for their NEEDS...won't be long and the Off-Road Guys will adopt it as well.
For those running 4 cell - the 17.5 offers a great "STOCK" speed alternative w/ a Brushless Motor...
For those who are making the change to LIPOs, the 17.5 is a duplicate to the speed of a 4 cell/ 10.5 class...but the LIPO has taken the BABYSITTING of Batteries and moved that to the backseat... Guys who have been racing for over a decade have said they haven't had this much fun in YEARS~!
NOW - Hot off the assembly line... the NEW 21.5 motor.
This is the LIPO based STOCK SPEED motor for Oval Racing - Don't know where this motor will fit in to the OTHER fields of R/C Racing - but it could/should make a GREAT Spec or NOVICE speed motor for some types of racing.
