Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has help for this fix.
Have a Murray (briggs & stratton) lawn mower. changed plug, oil, cleaned filter, replaced gasket type diaphram in carb and cleaned carb really good.
It's a throttle "free" design. 2004 model and in good condition.
It will start and run, but it won't "throttle up" to proper cutting speed.
Stays at a low rpm. Someone told me it's running rich but there's no "fuel mixture screw" to mess with.
Any ideas to get this thing running at proper RPM.
Thanks,
Daniel

PS-bought it for $30 bucks-don't want to put too may $$$ into it :)

You may just need to adjust the governor to set the operating RPM'S. Usually replacing the gasket/diaphragm takes care of a rich running situation.

sounds like the spring that goes to the governor from the butterfly on the carburetor is on wrong or not set right , did it work before you took the carburetor off

it ran worse before i did all the maintenance, now it just won't run at proper rpms. I've messed with the butterfly manually to see if that would help (opening & closing it) but it still won't do what it's supose to.

How do you mess with the govenor?

Thanks for any help!

When you replaced the diaphragm and gasket, are you sure you installed them in the proper order?

The diaphragm should go on the tank first followed by the gasket and then the carburetor.

It kinda sounds like the diaphragm is leaking and not sealing good.

what is a good price for a replacement gas tank/carb (if you need the model number off the mower i can get it)
A local B&S dealer wants $40. anyone selling refurbished parts for B&S for a better price.
