I did a similar thing with the white Cobra a while back. Only I just put Johnnny Lightning Cobra with White tires. Got me $24.99 after the winner got it he asked why I put the white tires on it. I simply told him the truth, to get more bidders to look at it.

Is there a handy source for the white tires? I need replacements for some of my WLs that see track time.

I'm not crazy about the whole WL look but it reminds me of the colorful gumdrops we ran in the '70s

OK, how about this. I get a blue Cougar, with a red chassis and white wheels and tires. Call it the ultra-super rare, not sold in stores or catalogs, Independence Day edition, out just for July 4th then it's gone forever.

Split! You ARE a marketing genius! Perfect timing to introduce the "Patriot Thunder". If that doesnt work out you could always offer it as a long lost Bicenntenial prototype. Does it shoot stars from the tail pipes or just smoke and flame off the armature?

Hmmmm? This might actually be do-able. Had an idea a while back when I saw the Lowlo's dragging a titanium block showering sparks down the boulevard.... how about mounting a flint wheel from a bic lighter to the rear axle and installing a modified spring loaded flint holder. This would be an even rarer and therefore more desireable factory option.

Bill, be sure to put lighter fluid down the track too, for old times sake.

There is a way to do this. If you ever built and flew model rockets, you remember the ignitor wire that lit the rocket motors. You could light them off 12 v car batteries, or, if your Mom didn't want to park that close they would ignite off a battery pack with nothing more than 4 AA batteries in it. Track voltage would certainly do it to.

What to light? Well, they sell bottle rockets here......

Bonus: This would overcome the AW chassis acceleration problems caused by gear misalignment & slippage for sure, and the little kick at the end couldnt' hurt. Hmmm..

LMAO Ed! The politically correct slot term for lighter fluid is "Ronson Tire Rejuvenator" according to Micyou.

ND: Now you've gone and done it! Do they still make the 'lil HO green army men? God I hope so. Burn ward is gonna be full if they do.

Split: Gonna hit the rez for some blackcats, and whistling moontravelers.
Always used a trackside mounted candle stub for an ignitor back in the day.
High tech!

Youse guys are a bunch of enablers! Thought my pyromania was in remission.
Hopefully I can figure out how to video record with my new camera before "T-Jets -O-Fire 07" on the Fourth.

I will select the participants from the scrap box tonight.

Yes... They still have these. Although, I'm not sure if they are actually making them or if they are NOS from a huge storage warehouse somewhere ( probably right next door to the legendary NOS tjet chassis storage warehouse). I seem to see bags of green army guys at the oddest places wherever I go. Must be the kid in me, because I don't know anyone else my age that would give them a second thought.

Anyway the story... A couple months ago I was on the road for work, driving in a wealthy nearby suburb, and I was on the hunt for hobby stores and slots...errr I mean I was working. I happened upon a hobby store tucked away in little strip mall. Local place, didn't even know it was ever there and almost missed it. I went in and they had a good mix of the "classic" hobby lines, high-end trains all scales, high-end diecast, models/supplies, toys like Barrel Full'O Monkeys, Silly Putty, Slinky, and low and behold...even some AW slots. How could I ever have missed this I thought!... Then I crashed back to earth when I looked at the prices. Yikes... blister packed AW's for $24.99??? I looked at other over-priced items as I began a hasty retreat out of the store and then put 2 and 2 together, the town I was in, the Mercedes, BMW's, and Range Rovers, and figured the pricing was in keeping with the gross income of the average town resident. On the way out I noticed bags of tan and green army men hanging on pegs.... $17.00 :freak: :freak: :freak: ... That's about $14 more than fair. Hmmm, I wonder if the high prices were to punish the snooty locals for their over-abundant pocket change or to keep the riff-raff (like me) from coming back into town?? Probably a little of both I guess.

Yeah Dave, taking advantage of where people don't pay attention to how much money they spend. Kind of like the $4.00 a pop soft drink vending machines at a resort.... I saw the behavior in action in my local hobby emporium. Little kid, maybe 5 or 6, was looking at toy trains, not Thomas or Brio, but HO. He wanted an engine, "dis one", one of the highly detailed heavy jobs in the felt-lined hard case. Momma bought it, about $150 worth. She said he had a lot of them.....

Sounds like this shop is somewhere in Bellevue. The PacNW gang can relate.

As a Marklin HO train collector I've always felt the bite of the so called high end hobby store. I did find a positive over the years.

Jeff: Seems like when Johnny tires of his thrashed high end trains; Mumsie satisfies his next I wanna. The goods often wind up back on the market for cheap! I bought and fixed Johnny's leavin's for years. LOL.

But $17 BUCKS for army men? We'll have to have congress boost defense spending to cover that action!

Must be the special forces edition, I guess.
