It's official, the first annual Hobby Talk Kustom Kontest is in the record books! Sorry for the long read, but we have a lot of ground to cover! With 9 cars entered into this years contest, the competition was tough. But all contest must have a winner, and those winners are........
FIRST PLACE - Lummox and the amazing "El Javalino"
With an overwhelming margin (47.5%) or 29 out of 61 first place votes, this ride was the run away winner! A new member, who came to kick a little custom tail and truly raised the bar for every contest to follow.
SECOND PLACE - Mark#10 and the nasty looking "Junk Yard Javelin"
A sound beating was felt in the second place category. Receiving 28.5% of the votes, the closest competition was 6 votes behind! What a beautiful...uh, I mean truly ugly car! I can sum this entry up by sharing with you my first comment upon seeing the car. When I saw pics I simply stared at the screen and muttered, "it's missing a door". My son looks over and says, "so, he just rip the door off". And I quietly replied..." it did not come with opening doors."
THIRD PLACE - 69Stang with "#25 AMC Trans-Am Racer"
Thanks guys! With almost 24%, (13 of 55 votes) I was thrilled. And when Toy Vettes had entered his #3 version, I was nervous. Mine had the more detailed presentation, but his had the more enjoyable "fun factor". So I was very pleased to be a winner.
As promised, we do have a forth place in this contest. I had stated that should I win a position, I would keep the place award, and pass the box of prizes on the "4th" place. The way I determine this was to take all votes cast in the whole contest and see who received the next largest amount of votes.
Had we followed this approach, the results would have been almost the same. Lummox would have won with 44 total votes, I would have been second with 34, just one over Mark#10 at 33! I was also 4th with a total vote count of 17 for my "Project Primer" entry. So I had to move to the next position, technically 5th ( it's hard giving away free stuff!) and we had a clear winner...
FORTH PLACE - Toy Vettes, a tie with "#3 AMC Racer" & "Zinger Convertible"
Both amazing rides, and both received 10 votes each, so a perfect choice for the prize box. Beautiful work Mark! I have to say I was amazed the Zinger did not do more, as this place is Zinger crazy!
So what now? The prize boxes have been loaded over two weeks. I am simply waiting on the awards to be produced and I will need to frame them up and add to the boxes. I will contact each of the winners this evening to get addresses, I hope to ship all prizes within 10 days.
LAST, (hey, stop that cheering!) I want to say THANK YOU to everyone here for making this such a wonderful contest. To each of the builders (there would have been NO contests without you guys), your just amazing! To Kenny Kaos, my original inspiration. Rob (Mac's Little Cars) and Bobby for the blessing to move forward. To the wonderfully talented designer who is making our awards and will be named later. And last, to everyone who took the time to view the cars and cast a vote! With 172 votes cast and THOUSANDS of viewer hits in all the related threads combined, I deem this a huge SUCCESS!
That concludes this years official 2007 Hobby Talk Kustom Kontest. We'll be back in '08, most likely the early part, maybe late winter. Thanks again to everyone. I hope the winners enjoy their boxes, and I will post photos of the awards when I receive them in the photo thread.
To everyone who did not care about the customs, thank you for your patience and tolerance with all the threads. to all my brethren and sisters, I love ya' all. Thanks for a great event! Now get busy building something! :p
Sincerely,
Ward
