View Full Version : Whitewalls NEEDED!!
ECchopper 06-11-2007, 11:17 AM I've decided to do a makeover on this 1:24 scale '40 Ford;

It's nice enough as it is, great lines and all, but silver's kinda dull, in my opinion. It'll be awesome when I'm done, I promise. Only thing is, with the paint job I'm doing, it will be screaming for a set of wide whites!!
Only sets I've got on hand are off the VW buses.
Problem is;

They don't fill the wheelwells the way I prefer. Plus they have those V Dub hubcaps.What I NEED are a set off the D-Rodz '32 or '37 Ford pick em up truck. (looks like those are the only wheels that'll work)

Problem is, I haven't SEEN any in the stores!
Doesn't hurt to ask...
Anybody got a set they don't need? Wanna swap or sell? Or donate?? lol Red rims preferred, but if I can get 'em apart, I can paint 'em.
This Hot Rod NEEDS fat whites! Dontcha think?
jlspec 06-11-2007, 11:21 AM The Big Lots here had a bunch of Wave 1 D-Rods for $2 each, but I don't remember which wheels were on the cars. Might be worth checking
ECchopper 06-11-2007, 11:53 AM Probaly shoulda mentioned it in the first post (I'll edit it)...
That '40 Ford is 1:24 scale.
But, thanks.
spencer1984 06-12-2007, 08:49 AM I need a set of WWs for a project too, but I plan to use the wheels off of a Kustom King tow truck. I don't know if these will be any easier to find (I haven't seen any yet), but they might work for this car as well.
Good luck with it, I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
ECchopper 06-12-2007, 09:55 AM Thanks for the tip, I'll look for them, too.

That particular 32 Ford PU is a Hobby Exclusive, thats probably why you haven't seen it at retail. As a Hobby Exclusive both the 32 and 37 Ford PUs came with one set of "Dubs" and one set of the fat WWs shown in the pic you provided.
I suggest tracking them down as they're perfect donor cars because you'll still have a complete car after the swap. But there is a problem... They both look better with the WWs instead of the Dubs.
Hope this helps. :wave:
spencer1984 06-13-2007, 08:59 AM Jada ought to release sets of just wheels, especially since they know collectors & builders like doing wheel swaps. They could do a package of big & little whitewalls, a package of drag wheels, a package of blackwalls, etc. I know I'd buy a few.
ECchopper 06-13-2007, 11:45 AM Thanks for that tip, Super Sport. I didn't know they were Hobby only.
May have to resort to epay.
And Spencer, that's a great idea! I'd buy 'em too!
'32 Deuce 06-15-2007, 03:14 AM Epay use to have a couple of guys that sold different wheel sets a couple of years ago but haven't checked lately & I don't recall them having any white walls at the time. You might want to check though, who knows maybe someone came out with some white walls by now. I checked my stash and all I have are extra sets of ugly tires & rims that I swapped out myself...:lol: Good luck !
ECchopper 06-15-2007, 11:56 AM I just did a search on evilbay for 1:24 Jada tires. One auction came up. The same exact wheels that I'm trying to replace!!
'32 Deuce 06-16-2007, 06:18 AM I also checked the bay, nothing but butt ugly replacement wheels & rims and not a white wall in site. You don't think they do that on purpose so you have to buy a whole new car just for the tires do ya ???:lol::lol::lol:
'32 Deuce 06-18-2007, 06:45 AM Hey Rob, I was in wally's late last night and they had a "65 Econoline Van (pick-up) Drag strip version with big black walls. It was red & white and actually a nice looking truck and guess what the extra set of wheels were that came with it ? Yeppers, the red white walls you're looking for ! The good thing was that the truck was nice and had nice wheels so you wouldn't be stuck with another car with ugly wheels just to come up with a set of wheels you need. Hope this helps you out a little..........
ECchopper 06-18-2007, 11:34 AM What a coincidence!! Guess what I bought Saturday evening ? Yup!! A red and white Econoline! I kept the white walls and a buddy of mine, who's into Econolines gets the drag version.
The tires are the same size as the VW's, so the don't really fill the wheel wells like the Pro Rod$ tires would, but at least they don't have the Vdub hub caps! (I still WANT the Pro Rod$ rims, but these'll do for now. )
The car has been painted and cleared, still working on wet sanding and rubbing it out. (no dirty comments, ok?)
'32 Deuce 06-19-2007, 05:52 AM Too funny, it was late Saturday that I spotted the Econoline myself, be sure and post pic's when you get it all finished up.....almost bought that one myself but the wheels & rims just didn't do it for me at all but after seeing it with the white walls I may have to go back & pick one up....:thumbsup:
