For those of you who don't want to or who can't speed alot of money on a trick gauss meter to check you sintered arms, you might want to read the following artical on how to make a reliable meter. The most improtant thing is to have a fixture to hold the arm in the same position in relation to the hall device. somthing as simple as a piece of PVC pipe cut in half, and the right size to fit the arm into and glue the hall device to the bottom of the pipe.

gezer...i tried it last month(knew the www site)...but don't know why...but didn't worked...on regular brushed magnets...it always showed the same numbers...like the mags were too strong for the hall device....?...any clue?

The more sensitive chip called out in the link will saturate at ~+/-440 gauss and the less sensitive chip will saturate at ~+/-880 gauss. Another words yes if you were measuring the magnets at the face using the chip and circuit shown you will saturate the chip and get the same reading no matter what you do. Fixture your probe further from the magnet.
I think I am going to try to build one myself and make a thing to hold the rotor in the same place all the time so I can get relavent numbers anyway that I can compare with others on my gauge. So Pat, I should get the $5 chip and not the $2 one?

Hey Cory you going to race that car this summer or just play with it on the bench
Don,a friend built me a gauss meter with a fixture that went into the can, great for reg can magnets, super accurate.. 20 bucks,i have another sensor that can read right off the magnet as well,i'll try it with the bl rotors and see how accurate.
Zubie-nice meter!
Just play with it...I seem to good at that!! I will be at the next mtown race, the real racing has been keeping me busy and then on top of that we are getting our house redone on the outside so I haven't had time to do much else. I will make it to a few of them and then who knows. I just sold my carpet ride last weekend so I am down to just an outdoor car and no budget for a new ride so I might just come play in the summer a few times or something. I didn't make many of them last winter though either.... Hope to see you there.
