I know that some people use suntan lotion for a traction compound on foam tires on asphalt. My question is how long before you race do you put this stuff on? 5 minutes, 10, an hour? May be a dumb question but need to know.

Thanks
John

Great stuff!! Used it on foams for old ashpalt. The higher the spf, the better. Put it on, work it in and then wipe it off. It really cleaned the foam!

2-4 heats prior, let it sit then wipe off before you run. Also, 45spf and higher works for me.

Coppertone Water Babies works good spf45
For stock I thought it took too long to come in and made the car push early in the run, I was always quicker with Trinity Red Dot. But for 19T or Mod suntan lotion seemed to work really well

From looking at the ingredients this looks oilfree.

Back in the day, we used Trinity Red dope on the tires first, then put suntan lotion on top of that. Awesome traction.

I tried suntan lotion at the Daytona race but had better luck with what Custom Works make. (Foam tires on flat asphalt)

It doesn't have to be a name brand, the cheaper the better

...I know when I started using WATERBABIES - it's what I had...at that time (17 years ago) my daughter was going to all the races with me - and she was 2 (and it was HER Sunscreen) Superstition kept me from using anything else...

Has anyone tried it on the carpet yet?

I run it on carpet sometimes. When everybody uses it on the same track, it`s just as fast as any other compound out there and it doesn't saturate the track. Sometimes though it seems you actually have too much grip! So if you have tons of grip at your track, my guess would be you would need to run slightly harder tires.

Last fall the Salvas brothers spread the word on this at St-Roch, at the opener all the fast cars were running Coppertone Waterproof SPF 45 suntan. In fact, I've run my personal fast lap with suntan.
