This weekend was our first car show of the season.

Every year some oddity pops up. Last year it was my highschool chum, Paul and his '35 Studebaker President. This year a sweet little Henry J was found hidden in an old man's old garage and purchased from the widow. It never went to bid.

She's not without her warts so I'd call it period original. A pretty clean car and the new owners (young couple) are very excited. Their first show. Note: The puddle of spew under neath is not from the Henry!

Also pictured is the baddest '55 in the territory and my buddy Ron, it's owner of the last 15 yrs. This car also has some great ghost flames that yours truly couldnt get to show with my remedial camera skills. Ron's won some serious bling for this awesome car since he finished it to show condition two years ago.

The opening show is sponsored by our local A&W. Robin's had me on a diet since the first of the year, so I didnt even realize the Yesteryear Carclub used a pic of Froggy on this years big car show sign in front of the drive in.

I should've sued and later settled for a Papa Burger combo basket, but I was hungry then and didnt have time to wait out the judicial process.

Bill, I love the pics. I don't know why, as they were before my time, but the Kaisers, the Nashs and Willys and the Studebakers of the early fifties appeal to me. The mid size sedans and smaller manufacturers. Kaiser had some amazing Darrin designs, and the Stude Starlights and Champions are just way cool. If I had found that Henry J sitting there for a reasonable price, I'd have jumped on it too. And likely paid the price when I got home, after everybody fell out on how a sports car guy comes home with a great-granny wagon.

As much as I love performance, I am a bit jaded on all the hot rods i see around here - decent old cars with 350 crate motors, some GM power seats and steering columns, and a wide range of skills on display in body work. I am of the "subtle is better" school, and the "how it would have been done in the day" style, although a blower sticking through the hood is usually always in good taste.....

I really would like to do Cruising the Coast one day in a car like that

Thanks for posting,
Jeff

Dave: It was my pleasure. I really love it when someone drags in a "timecapsule" car like that Henry J. I always find it miraculous when something surives the ravages of time!

Jeff: Agreed! I'll go one step farther and say that I'm pretty sick, bored of billet rods. They have all the appeal of an off the rack suit. I dont really have a problem with little old retired men, throwing a huge pile of cash at a turd and therby commisioning a work of art. I find myself shuffling down rows of cookie cutter rods thinking to myself "next...next...next......

The "less is more" movement towards more affordable ratrods, and cruisers harken back to the way it really was. I find it refreshing.

Ed: LOL! I had a little chuckle when I keyed in that title. Glad someone is paying attention.
