fatkid24 06-05-2007, 10:38 AM :freak: What tires are prefered for this track??
Hustler 06-06-2007, 09:31 AM :freak: What tires are prefered for this track??Losi 7364R Red IFMAR Studs rear and 7202R Red Wide Body Rib in the wet-prepped track. But in a dry, swept track? I'm not sure... Same fronts with 7371R Red BK Bars rear maybe? If anyone knows the Proline tires used, please speak up.

fatkid24 06-06-2007, 02:46 PM Thanks Hustler........ So the track is hard clay??? Keep the info coming guys, sould be some West Michiganders coming down to race..
Hustler 06-06-2007, 04:21 PM Thanks Hustler........ So the track is hard clay??? Keep the info coming guys, sould be some West Michiganders coming down to race..Sorry fatkid, I'm just a carpet guy so the dirt is just dirt and rocks as far as I can tell. Like asking a city boy about the forest. It's packed dirt, not sure of the clay or loam content...
-Sean
redbaron 06-06-2007, 04:21 PM Track is hard clay. Red Bigshots are the most consistant tire. 7202R or S fronts. I have used Red Studs in stock buggy but the track was worn in and a little loose. Red BK Bars if the track starts to grove. This is only on a fresh layout if track is swept and some what dry as Hustler said.
Hope this helps
fatkid24 06-06-2007, 10:35 PM Last Thing.. Is there a deadline for entries?? I didn't see it on the form. Unless I didn't see it...

I don't see any deadline.
wallyworld 06-07-2007, 10:12 AM There is no deadline. Just recieved an e-mail from Dakotah Phend that he just mailed in his pre-registration. He provided some some great competition last year.
ashxxxnt 06-07-2007, 12:54 PM i take it you have to have a roar menbership for this race
yokman 06-07-2007, 02:36 PM i take it you have to have a roar menbership for this race
yes you do but dale is going to pay for anyone who asks membership................right dale
david18t 06-07-2007, 02:59 PM you can get a partial one i believe for 15
wallyworld 06-07-2007, 10:08 PM yes you do but dale is going to pay for anyone who asks membership................right dale    You Dog! Are you coming up this weekend? The weather is supposed to be perfect. And don't give me the boo hoo story about gas prices. Besides you can spong a ride with Jason. :p
Hate that I've missed a few weekends here, including the memorial race....my back would just not let me leave the house again. :drunk:
I MIGHT try to make it tomorrow considering the next few weeks I won't be there for sure.....flying out to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to set sail for the Caribbeans, Mexico, Bahamas, Jamaica, and a couple more different countries for a week long cruise in a couple weeks.....i wouldn't miss racing for anything, except that a cruise would do some good of relaxation for a week without the kids...bring the stress levels back down!!!.....when we get back on a Sunday (the 1st of July) the very next weekend, we're going to Dale Hollow for boating and jet skiing for another week, but be back just in time on a Wednesday or Thursday before the regionals! YES! I'll have just enough time to blow the dust off my cars again to just make it. :) July is going to fly!!
I wonder if they race in Jamaica...... the sad thing is, I'll probably take my race car with me on my trips so I can work on them in peace and quiet with no kids around. lol I've forgotten what it's like to work on my stuff in peace and quiet or without a 2 year old running off with car parts to try and see how well they tolerate toilet water!
Anyway, see you guys soon and keep racing hard at Summit! I'll be back for some more 4 wheel again, and 2 wheel mod (or stock) as well.
I'm not giving up on the 4 wheel regardless how much I've broken it the last couple times (I should stop driving so strapped a bit)...lol I figured out a few things to keep it from breaking that I should've done before....one is letting off the throttle a bit. I just like seeing a 4 wheel drive car do power wheelies every now and then. :dude:
If I don't see you guys soon, see you at the regionals! Anybody that knows some racers that are racing nitro, try to get them to come back to electric to run at Summit, if not for local racing, at least the big races coming up soon. We need to keep anybody else from switching to gasholing as much as possible. It couldn't be easier or more fun to run electric than now with all the new brushless and lipo stuff we have to lower maintenance (and cost of brushes, lathes, time, etc.)
wallyworld 06-15-2007, 09:17 AM We just added Novak as one of our sponsers along with Spektrum and others. Should be plenty of door prizes for this one.
fatkid24 06-18-2007, 08:25 PM What are the tires to run in Truck??? I hear Taper pins for buggy.. Also can we sign up @ the track on Friday b4 the race? What time will the track openfor practice on Friday?
indy-25 06-18-2007, 10:36 PM Is the track going to be watered this year or left dry and just swept? Truck normally is edges or red directionals up front and ifmar rears.
fatkid24 06-19-2007, 07:33 AM I hear the track really eats up tires?? Can anyone fill me in on this?? I was told you can only get 4 runs on a set of rear tires........
scorgon 06-19-2007, 10:46 AM I hear the track really eats up tires?? Can anyone fill me in on this?? I was told you can only get 4 runs on a set of rear tires........
Maybe in mod but no so bad in stock. I don't think anyone is changing tires that often.
fatkid....it can be quite abrasive at times and under power (in mod) can put a lot of wear on the front side of the pins of the tire....it helps to rotate the tires every run to keep wear even.
It all depends on how serious you are. During a large race, I would want to run the newest/best condition tire I had for each qualifier and mains. If it were possible, I'd run new tires every run....at a LARGE race, not locally.
For local racing, you can get away with running the same tires for probably 3-4 weekends (again running mod) before they really start to go away..... while even though they do wear, they still manage to work well enough for regular racing or practicing.
You do notice more wear the more horsepower you run, say a 9 turn as opposed to an 11 or 12 turn. Especially if you drive your car with the throttle and rear end like I do. I try to set up a car that pushes slightly, then use the rear end to break loose if needed when approaching pivot type turns (180's) by either using the brakes (going in the corner), and using the extra horsepower to powerslide or drift around on-power turns, so that power is there if I need to break it loose for an on-power push condition....if any of that makes sense. It's not necessarily the most economical way of driving because I might wear a set of tires faster than another racer with a smoother driving style because the less you slide around and spin the tires, the longer your tires will last......mine tend to wear pretty quickly, but it works for me. Driving at the top levels requires that you push pretty hard, or you get beat.....it's that simple......slow, smooth and being patient is good, but will only get you so far before a faster racer pushing hard will pass you and leave you behind on the time sheet.
Anyway!!! ...... I use a lot of finger brake more so than coast-brake on outdoor tracks, probably more than others, and that can wear tires more prematurely as well. ....sorry about going off on a rant.
redbaron 06-19-2007, 05:07 PM Yea what Buff said but with like 100 less words.
indy-25 06-26-2007, 12:30 AM TTT only 3 weeks away.
wallyworld 06-29-2007, 11:16 AM We'll have 66 wall plaques 7 x 9 for all A-main racers and B-main winners. Two weeks till Region 5.
indy-25 06-29-2007, 02:27 PM Any news on whether the track will be water or left dry like last year?
redbaron 07-01-2007, 10:07 PM Any news on whether the track will be water or left dry like last year?
We discussed this today and feel the best method to keep the racing equal is:
1) Water the jumps only between rounds, or as needed to keep the jumps from crumbling.
2) I belive we will be sweeping before each heat to help the track groove up.
Wally will have to confirm this but as far as I know we will have brooms placed around the track so when you go out to marshall...a quick broom of the corner or where ever needed will keep traction up.
Like I say....this is the plan as far as I know at this point.
You might want to tryout this layout this coming weekend...warm-up race!
indy-25 07-01-2007, 10:43 PM Sounds good barron, yea i came up this weekend for the weather and it fit the schedule a little better. I'll be up there again next friday.

Thanks,
We got some hard working local racers all helping make some nice layouts. Much like SL crew.
You might have to bring that 4wd down here for the ROAR region race.
Tdevil 07-08-2007, 09:35 PM Just curious to compare the track to the one we have at Battle Front Gaming and R/C in Grand Rapids, MI. How long and how wide is the track and how wide are the lanes. Looks like a nice layout.
John
Oh, is the surface clay or a mix of some type?

To the best of my knowledge...the track is approx. 120 x 60 lanes are 8-10 ft wide. Hard packed Clay surface. Last year region 5 race, tracked grooved up big time. Buggies were running red bk bars and ft tapers, trucks were running red tapers all around. For most club races we run red big shots, holeshots. Hope this helps.
Tdevil 07-08-2007, 09:50 PM Thanks,
We are just getting ready to put a clay surface down on our track. The topsoil we used was great to race on, but was a maintenance nightmare. It would also whoop out pretty good on club race days.
Size is pretty close. Our lanes are 10ft and stacked right on each other so we are about 40 x 130. Guess the pictures make yours look a bit smaller than it is.
Thanks again for the info.
John
