A couple of the more obscure English marques.

Armstrong-Siddeley came about 1n 1919, following the merger, of the Armstrong-Whitworth & Siddeley-Deasy car making activities. The marque lasted for some 40 years - the main competition would have been Jaguar & Daimler.

The Sapphire 234 debuted in 1955 and went out of production in 1958 - the end came in 1960 when the Star Sapphire ceased to be made. Thereafter, the firm concentrated on aero engines - the 234 is a Lansdowne white-metal model.

Jowett Javelin

The Jowett marque dates from 1913 - their best car was made post WW II, the Javelin, in 1947 - very advanced for its time, however, financial difficulties intervened and production ended in 1953. Another Lansdowne model.

Jowett Javelin

Hi Steve,

I have to say that I am very impressed by your 1/43 scale collection. Some of the cars that you have posted on here I have never ever seen before.
Thanks for the pictures!

Thanks Vadim - I'm pleased that you appreciate the photos. Whilst most of my collection is of the more mainstream marques, I love the lesser known cars. Of course, as the 1:1s weren't very well known, there aren't that many in 1:43 - maybe, I should say, there weren't that many - as more & more of the most popular cars are covered, the model manufacturers are looking to the more unusual subjects.

Thanks Lummox, both models are by Lansdowne - Brooklin's range of cars from the UK.

I assume you mean production of the model not the marque ended? I've got a shot of the Cunninghams at LeMans and they were stabled next to the Jowett pits. Now I'm not sure if that was '53 or '54. I've always wanted someone to come out with one of the convertables in 1/64 so I could display them with the Cunninghams I've made.

Sorry - I was a year out - the marque died in 1954. Jowett competed at Le Mans from 1950-52, using the Jupiter convertible - your photo must have been from either '51 or '52 - the Cunningham C2Rs ran in '51 & the C4Rs in '52, which will identify which of the two years your photo was taken.

Must have been '52. There were two C4R's and 1 C4RK in the photo. The Jowett pits were in the background behind the #3 C4R.
