View Full Version : First Look-Speed Racer's Mach 5! fernieo 05-31-2007, 07:23 PM Looks Great! http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2007-05-30-speed-racer_N.htm flyingfrets 05-31-2007, 09:05 PM Looks a lot like the Mach 5 kitcar that was out there a few years ago. John P 05-31-2007, 10:45 PM Well, only because they both look like the Mach 5... flyingfrets 05-31-2007, 11:01 PM Well...yeah :freak: ! But I meant the way the proportions were scaled for "real" people! :p Prince of Styrene II 06-01-2007, 02:04 AM WOW!!! The car looks amazing!!! Lloyd Collins 06-01-2007, 03:16 AM Funny thing is,that I don't like Speed Racer, the cartoon. So I don't think I will see the movie. JeffG 06-01-2007, 04:38 AM If you look closely, the 'real' Mach 5 that was available a few years ago seems a bit more squared off, like it was made to fit an existing chasis, whereas this is more curvy and looks (to me anyway) considerably more like the animated version. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this film will shape up. The cast sounds great-so who knows, it be cool! chiangkaishecky 06-01-2007, 04:46 AM Mmmmmm ... pointy. John P 06-01-2007, 07:30 AM If you look closely, the 'real' Mach 5 that was available a few years ago seems a bit more squared off, like it was made to fit an existing chasis! Pretty sure they were built on Corvettes. They definitely had Corvette windshields. MartinHatfield 06-01-2007, 08:50 AM This Mach 5 is not a "real" car. There are some tell-tale signs that indicate that it is a cg version. I imagine that the real one will look as good. Prince of Styrene II 06-01-2007, 09:26 AM This Mach 5 is not a "real" car. There are some tell-tale signs that indicate that it is a cg version. I imagine that the real one will look as good. Well, much like any early promotional images, I'm sure this one has been tweeked to "perfection". Plus, the article said that there will be heavy CG involving the car, so I'm sure they have a full CG mockup as well. The Batman 06-01-2007, 11:10 AM Like Hirsch, the brothers grew up on the popular 1960s Japanese cartoon about the adventures of a racing family — and it's pet chimpanzee, Chim Chim. "And their pet chimpanzee." Their. 'Last I remember a 'Family' was still a group of 'people' not an 'it'!!!! Don't people speak english anymore? Where was the proofreader on that? - GJS flyingfrets 06-01-2007, 11:28 AM Pretty sure they were built on Corvettes. They definitely had Corvette windshields. Indeed they were Corvette chassis...at least the better looking one was. Saw one made for a Fiero chassis but it was not a very flattering representation of the Mach 5. JeffG 06-01-2007, 05:33 PM I hate to admit it, being a bit of an FX fan, but I can't really tell if this is CG or not. There's a pretty good picture of it on IGN today. If it's not CG, there's at the very least some photo retouching done to a few places. If it is in fact CG, then thats just as well too since it obviously has to match the real filming version precisely. Nova Designs 06-01-2007, 05:59 PM Indeed they were Corvette chassis...at least the better looking one was. Saw one made for a Fiero chassis but it was not a very flattering representation of the Mach 5. Thats true of anything built on the Fiero.. including the Fiero! :p chiangkaishecky 06-01-2007, 08:34 PM There's the "real" car at the movie press conference http://www.reuters.com/news/video/videoStory?videoId=55201 The Batman 06-02-2007, 10:30 AM Here's one of the Kit Cars for comparison: http://home.cshore.com/bucwheat/mach5.jpg - GJS big-dog 06-04-2007, 04:07 AM "And their pet chimpanzee." Their. 'Last I remember a 'Family' was still a group of 'people' not an 'it'!!!! Don't people speak english anymore? Where was the proofreader on that? - GJS Actually the word 'Family' is singular regardless of it being a group of people. It's 'A' Family. The word 'their' is plural, as in the people and their pets. Saying the family and their pet is like saying John and their pet. ClubTepes 06-04-2007, 11:08 AM Car looks good. Though, the front looks a little rounded off for my tastes, but thats just a small nit-pick. Hopefully, this quells a lot of fears. Griffworks 06-04-2007, 11:16 AM Alrighty, folks. Let's stick to the subject at hand and not critique each others writing. PhilipMarlowe 06-04-2007, 11:50 AM It doesn't look perfect, but it's not bad. It seems to me the middle section of the nose should be longer and more pointy. And I kind of miss those tail fins, but it's pretty darn close to the "classic" Mach 5 design. Matthew Fox seems like a great choice for Racer X. terryr 06-04-2007, 02:08 PM That car looks pretty speedy. Ha Ha. It looks like you could cut your head off on the windshield. Ho Ho. flyingfrets 06-04-2007, 07:24 PM And I kind of miss those tail fins... ??? I see fins on it... CaptFrank 06-04-2007, 11:57 PM Griff warned:Alrighty, folks. Let's stick to the subject at hand and not critique each others writing. Why? We're correcting each others' posts all the time in other threads! SteveR 06-05-2007, 01:20 AM Donning asbestos shorts, here: Apparently, both singular and plural forms of verbs are used after collective nouns. The singular is used when the noun refers to the group as a whole, and the plural is used when the noun refers to the individual members of the group. "The cabinet is divided" means that a single thing has now been divided. "The cabinet are agreed" means that more than one individual agrees on something. More than one person is necessary for agreement. The first requires a singular verb, and the second requires a plural verb. As for possessives, I'd guess that "the family and its chimp" would be correct, since the group unit owns one chimp, but "the family and their chimps" would be correct if each member of the family could afford his or her own personal chimp. Nice car, though. Ohio_Southpaw 06-05-2007, 08:49 AM ??? I see fins on it... It looks like a spoiler across the back to me. Does it also look like it has a 3rd seat? Prince of Styrene II 06-05-2007, 09:04 AM "The cabinet are agreed" Shouldn't that be "...is agreed"? <ducks & runs for cover> Nice car, though. It's the car, right? Chicks dig the car. John P 06-05-2007, 09:12 AM Larnin' is fun! PhilipMarlowe 06-05-2007, 11:35 AM ??? I see fins on it... I don't, in both the picture and video of the prop car, the back end looks pretty smooth, though you don't see it clearly. There are fins on the model. fernieo 06-05-2007, 12:12 PM Here's a Higher Res Shot, There's something back there. http://www.aintitcool.com/images2007/biggestMach5.jpg flyingfrets 06-05-2007, 05:56 PM I don't, in both the picture and video of the prop car, the back end looks pretty smooth, though you don't see it clearly. There are fins on the model. If you watch the begining of the video, just before & while they're rolling the cover off of it, you can clearly see 2 projections from the top of the rear fenders. The way the cover sags between these 2 points rules out a spoiler in so far as I can see as well. All in all, I don't think they did too bad a job on it. I like it... big-dog 06-06-2007, 02:22 AM maybe we shoulda lowered that spoiler. Maybe even gone with a wing or a fastback..... chiangkaishecky 06-22-2007, 10:23 AM Airplane-like fins http://www.aintitcool.com/images2007/srmach5.jpg On a different note new Nickleodeon "Speed" cartoon's "Mach 6" http://www.screenhead.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/speedracercartoon.jpg Fugly vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
