Funny thing is,that I don't like Speed Racer, the cartoon. So I don't think I will see the movie.

If you look closely, the 'real' Mach 5 that was available a few years ago seems a bit more squared off, like it was made to fit an existing chasis, whereas this is more curvy and looks (to me anyway) considerably more like the animated version. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this film will shape up. The cast sounds great-so who knows, it be cool!

This Mach 5 is not a "real" car. There are some tell-tale signs that indicate that it is a cg version. I imagine that the real one will look as good.

Well, much like any early promotional images, I'm sure this one has been tweeked to "perfection". Plus, the article said that there will be heavy CG involving the car, so I'm sure they have a full CG mockup as well.

Indeed they were Corvette chassis...at least the better looking one was. Saw one made for a Fiero chassis but it was not a very flattering representation of the Mach 5.

I hate to admit it, being a bit of an FX fan, but I can't really tell if this is CG or not. There's a pretty good picture of it on IGN today. If it's not CG, there's at the very least some photo retouching done to a few places. If it is in fact CG, then thats just as well too since it obviously has to match the real filming version precisely.

Thats true of anything built on the Fiero.. including the Fiero! :wave: :p

Actually the word 'Family' is singular regardless of it being a group of people. It's 'A' Family. The word 'their' is plural, as in the people and their pets. Saying the family and their pet is like saying John and their pet.

Car looks good. Though, the front looks a little rounded off for my tastes, but thats just a small nit-pick.

Hopefully, this quells a lot of fears.

It doesn't look perfect, but it's not bad. It seems to me the middle section of the nose should be longer and more pointy. And I kind of miss those tail fins, but it's pretty darn close to the "classic" Mach 5 design.

Matthew Fox seems like a great choice for Racer X.

Apparently, both singular and plural forms of verbs are used after collective nouns. The singular is used when the noun refers to the group as a whole, and the plural is used when the noun refers to the individual members of the group.

"The cabinet is divided" means that a single thing has now been divided.
"The cabinet are agreed" means that more than one individual agrees on something. More than one person is necessary for agreement.

The first requires a singular verb, and the second requires a plural verb.

As for possessives, I'd guess that "the family and its chimp" would be correct, since the group unit owns one chimp, but "the family and their chimps" would be correct if each member of the family could afford his or her own personal chimp.

I don't, in both the picture and video of the prop car, the back end looks pretty smooth, though you don't see it clearly. There are fins on the model.

If you watch the begining of the video, just before & while they're rolling the cover off of it, you can clearly see 2 projections from the top of the rear fenders. The way the cover sags between these 2 points rules out a spoiler in so far as I can see as well.

All in all, I don't think they did too bad a job on it. I like it...

maybe we shoulda lowered that spoiler. Maybe even gone with a wing or a fastback.....
