After 40 years of building the rear engined Beetle and it's derivatives, VW decided to join the modern world with watercooled front engined, front wheel drive cars. The first such, to wear a VW badge, wasn't actually a VW - the K70 was designed by NSU and was to be positioned just below the rotary engined Ro80 in the NSU range. However, following the VW takeover, the K70 appeared, in 1970, as a VW.

The first proper VW fwd cars debuted, in a rush, in 1974-75 - all of a sudden VW had a full range from the small Polo, via the Golf to the larger Passat, together with the Scirocco coupe.

All models are by Minichamps, except the Golf by Norev - as for the K70, hopefully I won't have to wait too long as Norev have announced that they are to make one in 1:43.

I know you're not into 1/64 scale diecast cars Steve, but this car reminds me of a 1/64 scale Johnny Lightning Poker series car with the green interior. They had a green felt interior on the Poker series cars (YUK!). I wonder if Johnny Lightning had any influence in making this car (yellow with green interior)? :p

I doubt there was any JL influence Ray - - Minichamps try to make their models as authentic as possible - remember, this was the '70s - colour coordination was very suspect...... :p

As for JLs in general - having had a deco at the other forae, there are many US cars, in 1:64, I would love to see in 1:43 - as you intimate, for me, they're in the wrong bloody scale :(

Neat collection, my first car was a 1977 Rabbit/Golf. It had the optional fuel injection, adjustible headrests, and radial tires, all for $4,300.00 US. I still have the window sticker, and brochure which lists several odd color choices. It can be tough finding 1/43 VW's here.
