I took Adam and a friend from HobbyTalk to Carb Day last Friday. Had not been to Carb Day since they went to the new format and had no idea what it would be like. I can't speak for the other two but this is how my day went.
I had to pick up the tickets off Meridian before we hit the track so the ride on 16th was a little brutal. That was really the only negative of the whole day.
We got to the Suite just minutes before the last "hour" of practice for the field of 33. Every car came out for fine tuning so other than the race itself, it was the most action of the entire month I was told. It was really cool and action packed!
We got Garage and Pit passes and went to check out all that action. In the pits we walked by Michael Andretti, Chip Ganassi and in a cart, AJ Foyt tried to run over Mike but missed. We stayed there to watch the Freedom 100 start and as we literally stood on the pit wall, watched the Pace Car start them all off. It was really cool.
Went back to the Suite for great food, watched the rest of the Freedom 100 then went back to the Museum. As we walked around a very informative man was talking to a small group of people around the STP Turbine car. The "I" "me" and "us" quickly made me realize it was no other than Parnelli Jones. Damn if I didn't have a pen handy! After the Museum we went over to Fanfest, checked out the awesome Chevy display, got Al Unsers autograph and then we were treated to "Old Timers Day" where owners of vintage Indy car owners showed their cars off. We found out they were going to run the track so we started to head back to the Suite. As they started a vintage roadster, the car was in gear and actually ran a guy over!!!!! No kidding, the car was lurching over him like a croc eats it's prey.
We watched some serious vintage cars including two STP Turbines, many Roadsters, some older IRL's Foyts #14 Gilmore and many others. Then as the cars cleared off we watched the Kid Rock Concert.
For me it was a really great day spent with some really great company. I hope pictures are posted to show off the fun.
