hello, my neighbor has an older snapper rider and it starts right away with carb cleaner but dies immediantly(yes there is plenty of gas in the tank). i think the float is stuck so the engine isnt getting any gas but i was wondering if anything else could be the problem? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

there could be gunk in the carburetor, check the fuel lines and air filter

If it runs on carb cleaner, then it fires. That probably means a fuel delivery problem. What brand of engine is this? I imagine it is a Briggs. Either way, checking the carb to see if the float and needle is working is pretty easy. Drain the gas, or remove the fuel line and plug it up. Remove the carb bowl, and you'll see the brass bowl. It is usually better to remove the carb to do this, but at the very least, you can see if the float goes up and down. You should also see the needle underneath going up and down through the hole above it. This can get gunked up too. If there is a lot of gunk and debris, it usually does wonders to remove all the rubber parts and soak the whole thing in carb cleaner over night. disassemble everything and clean out all the jets and so on.
