It really doesn't make a difference for 4 cell oval. If you want to save some space you can replace the heatsink with this......

Novak also offers 4-cell versions of the GTB, both standard (http://www.teamnovak.com/products/esc/gtb_4cell/index.html) and Spectrum optimized. (http://www.teamnovak.com/products/esc/gtb_spread_spectrum/index.html)

Yes, but be careful taking off the existing heatsink, there is thermal paste underneath it and you want to leave that intact.

Here is some advice that charlie@teamnovak.com posted several months ago:
Hi guys,

If you do happen to do your own, GTB 4 cell convert, be sure to retain the "gap pad" that is under the stock heatsink. That must be used and not be torn.

On a new ESC its fairly easy as it's not been through a good hot cycle yet, but after you've run them a few times, the material can be kind of tricky to deal with. Just go slow and lift it carefully.

The GTB 4 cell is quite a bit lighter then the standard GTB, and there are some minor profile revisions and value changes to better suite the usage.

Default profile starts out at lowest minimum drive as do all the profiles. The Drag Brake percentages go int 3% increments instead of the standard %5.

Also, the input plugs/switch are hard wired with no pins. The main goal of the GTB 4 cell was to offer a out of the box, race ready oval/12th scale BL ESC. Lower for the GTP bodies and oval chassis mounting locations.

Is anyone having any problems with the 4 cell gtb over heating in any of the 4300 or mod classes?

I don't run the 4 cell unit, but I do have one of the custom thin covers made by Randy @ Big Boys Toys (similar to the ones for the BRL too)

No problems so far...

I run my other two with just the original heat sink and no fan (I only had one of the custom units..and I need 3 or 4 more.)

I been running without fan/heat sink for 6 months now 4-cell 4300 and lipo 4300 no problems plus I am AZ so it's 105+ outside right now and still no issues.

If you plan to just use the piece of lexan, don't bother sending it in. The thermo paste is to tranfer heat form the fets to the heat sink. So if your not using a heat sink no need to have the paste. I'd prefer to use atleast the flat alumium plate for the heatsink rather then using the lexan.

I also bought a used GTB that had the lexan for a cover...I replace it with one of the Aluminum covers from Randy @ BigBoys Toys (mine did still have the thermopaste though)

Don't Randy's covers come with the stuff on them already? I got one for my SS and it had a tape on the back of it and that is what I used, it has worked so far for 4300, I will be running it outside here shortly and I have the heatsink ready to bolt on top of the plate if needed since the plate is stuck to the fet board.

They may come with it now...I had one of his 'originals'

Randys were out a little before the BRL ones were..but they are very similar except the BRL ones say BRL on them.
