I collect MB along with JL & HW and other diecast, but I constantly see on Eekbay people selling just the empty box of the old Matchbox Superfast cars. They want as more for a box than they would for just the car. Are these boxes that worthy of collecting?

please excuse my typing, between th oxycodone, a steel rod that was implanted in my broken in 3 places arm and wrist, i have to forgo proper writing procedure.
the art of box collecting is as refined as collecting the models themselves, it really is a hobby within a hobby. there is a rarity scale within the type boxes starting with the first boxes to the transitional period...some boxes are valued at 50 times what te model is valued at. while i do not have my information in front of me, there are probally 20 boxes arcoss the types that are valued at apx 200 to about 900 or so us dollars, with again that many that are valued at 1 to 300 or so
there were collectors of mb in the 60s for sure, but many times over, even professional collectors did not retain the boxes, some did, for sure, but couple this with extremley short run boxes, and length of time and it makes for some extreme rarities of certain type boxes. the models have survived, but many boxes have perished.

very nicely stated  boxes that do remain from childhood collections are most likely in rough shape too.
unless there was a major variation most collectors didn't purchase another boxed model.

When you were a kid, it was luck to still have the car after six months. Box? What box, it came in a box?
Old joke is the kid who got a new peddle car and had more fun playing in the big box than peddling the car around.!

This is one of the rarest boxes. This just sold at auction for almost $900. I will sell you the model for $25. They just display so nice with the box.

for any "F" box collector Tom, it sure is a grand catch, this box and a few other f boxes sure brings the collective value of trying to complete a set up a few notches...f boxes are amongst my favorites.I just wish Lesney would have released the entire range of f boxes.
