View Full Version : Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Storm Steel
1st Race of the season this Sunday, May 27, 275 foot smooth asphalt banked track (we run caps).
Always good racing and a very laid back racing format.
Gates open at 8:00 AM, racing usually starts about 11:00 AM.
3 heats and mains.
Website: www.iroaronline.org (http://www.iroaronline.org/) click on forums and then click on new forums and the schedule is there under oval.
Last year the main class was 4300 brushless, this year I'm sure that there are some that will run 13.5 brushless, whatever you have bring it out and will make a class.
Hope to see lots of racers.
MK Race 05-22-2007, 05:08 PM Can't wait for the outdoor season at Storm Steel. AJ is right, a very nice track to race at, with nice people.
See you all Sunday.
Do you have the address/mapquest of the track listed on the website? I took a quick look, and didn't see it?
What is the "standard" cap tire set-up?
MK Race 05-22-2007, 07:43 PM 6105 6th St, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
I used something like GreenL LF ProLite, BlueS Net RF, Green/PinkL ProLite LR, BlueS Net RR.
It's shaping up to be a good crowd and the weather is looking up as well.
Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Chamber of Commerce day, temps, mid 70's, light breese, not a cloud in the sky.
Good crowd yesterday and the racing was excellent, thanks to all that came.
Dave Kleinschrodt won the A main, I got 2nd, but after that I'm pretty cloudy, I'm sure that Danny B. will post the results.
Next Race June 9, which is a night race under the lights.
MK Race 05-28-2007, 12:13 PM Wow what a great day for the 1st race at Storm Steel. Excellent job by the Iowa group again.
Congrats to Dave on the win.
Good job AJ to finish 2nd in a stellar field of 4300 cars.
Nice hat Phil, but not as nice as mine.:D
philb1 05-29-2007, 07:01 AM MK, I do what I can.....
Are there enough people running the 4300 class? Or is everything 13.5?
pmsimkins 05-30-2007, 08:44 PM They were all 4300.
Are you going down for the next race?
pmsimkins 05-30-2007, 08:56 PM Not unless there is a very high probability of rain in West Bend and a very low probability in Cedar Rapids.

I guess that means you probably will or probably won't.
I'll probably see you Pat, if you go to Storm Steel or probably when we go to the Tri-Clone in July.
:jest:
pmsimkins 05-30-2007, 10:33 PM Actually I can't race anywhere on June 9. With gas what it is right now I have to pick and choose my travel. I'd like to come down for the King of the Hill race again, but i"ll be gone by then.
I have to drive past Madison on my way down. Let me know which weekend you want to go and I'll stop at the park-n-drive and carpool out there...??
pmsimkins 05-30-2007, 11:29 PM Thanks, if I decide to go down I'll drop you an email.
SDL98 06-02-2007, 11:43 PM Race No 2 next Sat night under the lights. The night races are a blast.
At this point the weather looks perfect and it appears that there is going to a very good crowd, should be lots of fun and everyone knows the cars are faster at night. LOL
pmsimkins 06-05-2007, 10:46 AM What time do you guys actually start the qualifiers?
MK Race 06-05-2007, 05:12 PM Hey Pat, on last years forum AJ posted that heats start at 7pm. I thought they started at 6pm, but it might be 7.
We are going up Satuday morning and should be there around noon. We'll stay over night at Motel 6 for $35 for a single and go home Sunday morning.
Hope you can make it.
pmsimkins 06-07-2007, 01:01 AM I had a bout of wishful thinking. I'm out of town Friday and Saturday morning. Looks like I'll be back to Madison around 4pm, so it's pretty much impossible for me to make it down. I just get withdrawl when I can't race for a week!
Too bad Pat, I was looking forward to stealing some speed secrets. LOL

Didn't you get second at the first race? You don't need any speed secrets!!!
It's all about which profile you use on the speed control! :hat:
I did get 2nd, but not because the car was fast, I was just able to keep it out of the grass, I guess sometimes a push is good. LOL
Saturday night is round 3 at Storm Steel. Weather looks great and it appears that there will be a good crowd. Both classes 13.5 and 4300 are going to be well represented.
If you want to run something else bring 2 buddies and will run whatever you bring.
Hope to see everyone Saturday night. Racing usually starts between 6 and 7, the track will be open at noon.
