I heard that the alumite is a greasy resin and paints dont stick well, have you had any of those problems? I guess with dyes it is pretty good just need bottle paint for bumpers and such.

If mixed wrong any resin will be greasy. I always wash my bod's down with soap and water before I paint and do a light undercoat so I never seem to have any problem with paint not sticking..sound slike I should go run 500 laps to TEST this out lol...Bute seriously I do not find one greasier then the other. I've seen both in need of a good scrub out of the mold and some that are just plain ready to go...
For Bumpers I use the Boss method of rubbin on the chrome.. lot easier to do and looks 100% better and for reason my mind is drawing a huge blank of what the stuff is called.....sorry lol.. old fart moment.

Coach,
It is funny that you mentioned the fumes. I forgot to open my garage door the other day while painting. I then drove to the hobby store for supplies. I had the windows down and got some food in me.
Seriously use proper ventalation when painting. I was feeling woosy and it wasn't pretty.
I have some resin stuff and mold stuff from Hobby Lobby but, just haven't gotten to that portion of cusom made stuff yet. I want to and will someday. Gotta paint for now then resinate later. Good info here on Hobby Talk will give me the confidence to do this when my time comes.
I may dabble in Bill Halls wacked out plastic methods soon. I like the idea of using original plastic. I love to paint but, believe it or not I like lots of original plastic colored bodies. Just depends on what it is and how it looks.

roadrner 05-21-2007, 09:56 AM You could try the starter kit Micro Mark offers. It comes with everything you need to start your career as a resin caster. :freak: Not a bad little kit to use to see if this is something you'd like to venture into. As far as resin and greasiness, any resin piece I've had to do something with needed a good scrubbing with some cleaner and warm H2O before I would consider shooting any paint at it. Have fun and make sure you post pix of your castings when you get them pulled !! rr

O.K. now I need some time off from work to just have fun molding slot bodies and parts. Dang used up all my Vacation in Vegas this year again.
This link realy explains the process very well. I have seen other links but, like the Lego idea alot. Hmmmm gotta paint while the weather holds out. Maybe it will rain here or something for a few days? I so want to do this someday!
