hey Guys, I have a B & S 12hp i/c motor that needs a Carb. My neighbor has a 8 hp B & S and the carb looks exactly the same, Will it fit my motor? I have pulled it off and it looks exactly the same except for the choke apperatus, which is on the opposite side. Please HELP!!!!
Thanks, Rayrayman

No, the carburetor off of an 11hp may work on a 12hp. The carburetor on the 8hp may look the same but it's slightly smaller and the jetting should be different.
And a 2hp carburetor will not fit a 5hp engine let alone an 8hp. Different displacement engines require different amounts of fuel and air to run properly, so the jetting will not always be the same even if the carburetors look the same.
The first 2 digits of the model number on a Briggs and Stratton engine refer to displacement. An old 8 hp engine should be around a 19 cubic inch engine and a 12hp will be around 28 cubic inches.
Some engines will use a different carburetor and camshaft combination to develop different hp ratings within the same displacement engine block.
