After seeing what videojimmy did with his Dash Cheetahs and G-Plus chassis I scrounged up a few junk G-plus chassis in a lot on ebey a few months ago. I mounted up my red on right away.

Well I started getting the chassis ready for my white one tonight. I oiled up the chassis and tested it. It ran good, but the rear tires were all dried out. I was just about ready to rip the dried sponges off the rims and replace them with JL rubber when I thought...Hmmmm lighter fluid really makes JL rubber grip great, I wonder what it could do for these dried up sponges. I soaked the sponges in lighter fluid then ran the car a few laps and the tires are like new now.

I wish I knew this a couple of years ago.

I lost my chassis. I had it just about ready. I was looking for something to use for front tires last night. I came down here this morning found some tires. Now, I can't find my chassis.

I just found it. It was stuck to the bottom of a metal parts box I have. Whewwwww!!! I was going crazy!!!

And the tires still feel good.

I hope I didn't lose the tires now.

I'll have to try the lighter fluid trick. I had been applying silicone over old sponges and finding moderate success, but maybe bringing them back to life will be better.
Thanks for posting the idea.
I lost one screw-on wheel the other night while putting a pair on a car. I went crazy looking for it on the floor, under the couch, etc. For some reason I had put one tire of the pair away. Wasted about an hour!

How long did you soak them?

I have a few chassis ready to run, a couple sets of "rare earth" mags ready to pop in and a few sets of unopened tires...but I'm sure they are dry as hell...

I'd like to try and refresh the tires..

I just soaked a q-tip and applied it to the tire with the q-tip. They felt good after on application, but I did it two more times anyway.

Neat post Mike. Cant wait to try it!

Tonight I'll put it to the test on a decnet, but dry set of spongies on my AMRAC Porsche RSR. Gonna hose down some T-jet spongies in my tire collection too.

You neglected to mention when you put fire to the lighter fluid?!

The Cheetash challenge pic is outstanding.

I just tried lighter fluid on an old Tyco, but didn't have as good results, but the tires are a bit better.
