Ok guys how many of us are there?

I am looking for interest to hold a Large National type event.

The location would be at LPR in Montgomery, Alabama.

This is just the first feeler I am putting out there. Classes, format and dates are still up in the air. 09's and 12's for sure though.

Well, myself and Charlie, Benjie, Rickie, Roger and Brian, and James. That is 7 from N.C. and S.C. I can name others but I believe they will post here.

For the VA guys, depending on the time of year, I may try to make it for .09

Can not speak for Lin or Gary. Between the bird's, nationals and the nitro series races, Gary uses most of his time off. Lin uses his time with the series and Daytona.

How many racers would it take to make this race go???

Larry thanks for posting.

What Nitro Series are you running in? I am running in the GASCAR series down here. So far it is a blast. This is my forst season in Nitro, I did race Electrics for about 10 years though. Just a different type of power for me. I really like the no battery worries.

As far as the race, I do not know how many entries. I would love to see 100 or more of course. IF this is a go, I would love to race in it, but would probably not. I would run the event.

I have helped run several large R/C events in the past. Alabama State Off-Road champs, Regionals, and one National On-Road race here in B'ham. So the logistics are not a problem.

Time of year? I would preferr later in the year, it gets pretty hot here in 'Bama in the summer. It would be a multiday event with LONG mains for pit stops.

You can see the track at www.lagoonparkraceway.com .

Give me you input, for that matter I need/want EVERYBODY'S input on this.

If one of you other "sanctioning bodies" wants to chime in here, feel free.

I just want to have a big event here close to home.

Count me in on the Nitro Nationals Concept, Scott. We talked today about it and I think its a good idea. You can count on GASCAR throwing its support behind the race and also Team Coyote will do whatever we can to make it a reality and success. Lets see how many nitro pan cars and racers we can pull into LPR!!

That “other” series is the RC-Oval Nitro Series LOL We run the .09’s and this year we also race the .12’s in the South East.

I will have to reserve my commitment until I see when it will be and if I have any vacation time left after the series.

I would like to aim for and October date. The weather is still warm enough without being Alabama HOT.

I meant no harm by asking for input from another sanctioning body. All I intended was to gain input.

The rules are being hashed out and will follow the GASCAR rules for racing. You can see them on the GASCAR website www.gascarnitroracing.com .

We will be talking to a fuel MFR. about supplying the fuel for the race and the engine tech issues are being worked out now.

What I am thinking is to have tech open for engine tech a day or two before the race. All engines will be put through tech, checking bore and stroke. Stroke with a dial indicator though the head and then the sleeve removed and checked with a go/no-go guage. If the engine passes it will be sealed. A small hole in the top cooling fin of the head and then replacing one of the backing plate screws with one with a hole in the head for the seal wire. All cars will be put through tech before every heat and main. Seals checked for integrity. If a seal is found to be broken that engine will not be allowed to compete until it has gone back through tech. Cars will also be impounded after each heat/main, whether it completes the heat or not. Again for checking of the seal. If a seal has been broken in the heat and it was good before (it would have to be or it would not have been allowed to compete) the seal will be replaced in tech, with the driver present of course. To answer an upcoming question, NO we will not be reassembling your motor after tech. YOU will provide all the labor for testing. We will only be doing the measuring. WE will priovide the workspace and tools as to avoid controversy.

Or is all the above needed?

Weight is easy, scale. The car will also have to be of minimum height, again with a go/no-go setup.

Besides time being an issue, do you guys have a problem with this so far? If so, please let me know.

Scott, time is off to attend a race is important to racers. To require a day just to have a motor checked would not work for many, especially if there is a long drive to get the race track. I think it would be nearly 12 hours from Richmond, Va. I know you are trying to create an even playing field. An after race tech would be best. Also with the distance could a track in-between areas be used.

I have been talking with a few experienced Nitro guys and have determined that the EXTENSIVE motor tech I was suggesting would not be needed. Only tech then thouroughly after the mains is what I am thinking at the moment.

This is not a replacement for the GASCAR series which I run in right now.

What I was trying to gauge interest in is a Big Event for us Nitro guys. Like a National of old.

I think Roar is contemplating including the .09's and .12's in with the paved oval nats next year which I think is a good idea.Like Larry said, time off is a HUGE problem for most racers, you figure a week for the paved nats and a week for the snowbirds and that's all most folks can afford. Most folks are having to choose which races to go to now. It's good that you're trying to get something for the nitro guys going but if we could get put in with the electric guys it's a win win for everybody,ONE HUGE EVENT! Afterall that's what we're after anyway.

You have a PM.

Pepe --

You have some great points as well. I am not against a combo race at all. The more the merrier.

Like I have said, this is in the "infant stages" and I am feeling my way through this on what the racers want.

I understand and am not knocking what you're doing, just trying to give you something to think about. It would be nice to have a ton of racers so that we could say that we really need a big race for the nitro guys, but when we're struggling just to get 100 racers to an event, well you get the point.

If you not only make it special but make it a “spectacle” then it could work. Become the P.T. Barnum, Humpty Wheeler and Mike Boylan all tied up into one and promote the hell out of it. Don’t call it a National or a Worlds or anything like that. Those titles are nothing but that…”titles” and they don’t make it a race to remember. Make it a race that the electric guys wished they had bought a nitro car so they could have gone to it! LOL

Oh yeah, one more thing....put the mains under the lights on a Saturday night!

ScottH

pepe -- I did not take it that way at all.

I think it would be great to have the Electrics and Nitro cars run in one event.

Maybe we can get one of the ROAR champs down here.

Personal opinion.......I thought the idea was to make it a big "nitro" race?

I think most, not all, but most of the nitro guys have electric cars as well.At this point we just don't have enough racers to exclude certain folks. This is not to say that eventually we won't but right now we just don't.

With only 6 classes at a Electric National event, I don't see where there is room for a nitro class. My main problem with the nitros is the noise! I have alot of noise at my work and don't care to hear more noise when I'm playing with my toy cars.

Larry B

jflack, this thread is about a big nitro car race. No organizations (roar, arcor) are trying to put it on. It has been brought up that having electric could add racers to the the event. If you do not like the noice you do not have to come. Your coments can only hurt electric racers being added.

I am a nitro and electric racer. I try to support the hobby not just my intrest. We need more people to do the same to help the hobby grow. I know you are an avid racer and try to make as many events as you can supporting tracks. Before putting down the nitro cars try one. Maybe an event of this type could open your eyes to racing and not needing the new batteries, motor building ( like in brushless racin, which I know you do) and all the equipment that goes with that type of racing.

I would be willing to let you drive my car if the chance came up.

Let's keep it positive for all.

No thanks....It's not about the car for me, its the noise. I'm glad racers are happy with the nitro cars, ya have fun running them. I hope ya get 200 racers to show up.
