View Full Version : Production #s for Reno Diecast Boss 429 Mustang (GM & reg)??
gr6120 05-06-2007, 11:57 PM Hi all.
I recently got both the regular and Green Machine versions of the sharp-looking black Reno Diecast Boss 429 Mustang. On the card, it says "1 of 1,000" pieces for the promo. Reno's website lists "regular 1/900" and "1/100 Green Machines" for this LE piece.
But ... looking at the base of my GM Boss 429, I see it's numbered as 1078 .
Much obliged if anyone could please shed some light on production numbers for this piece.
Many thanks for any help .
Regards,
Adam (gr6120)

I believe that the first 1000 were the regulars and the next 100 were the GM's, unless I'm mistaken. I don't have that 1 yet so can't compare. Jon

Hi Jon.
That's what I thought at first, too. But Reno's website specifically lists "regular 1/900" and "1/100 Green Machines", which accounts for my confusion:

70XR7 05-07-2007, 08:37 AM I think they do additional cars for samples, give aways, etc. Greenlight probably gets 5-10 to keep to use as demos for other customers, I'm sure Reno has a stash for their ee's - the 900/100 is probably refering to what is available to the general public.
At least that's my best guess!

Thanks for the reply. It's an interesting theory. I've also e-mailed Reno Diecast, so hopefully they'll be able to clear this up soon. I'll post here if I hear back from them.
Mikietom 05-07-2007, 04:04 PM I think I saw this explained somewhere. Usually all the cars in the run are sequencally numbered; however, some may be rejected for one reason or another. Rather than restarting the numbering process it just continues until the production run (1,000) in complete. In many cases the numbers on the base exceed the total production, but in the end the total production number is what is was supposed to be.

gr6120 05-07-2007, 11:05 PM Okay, just heard back from Art at RenoDiecast with an answer to the production number question:
This was a misunderstanding by the manufacturer. Instead of 900 regulars and 100 greens, there are 1000 regulars and 100 greens.
So this clears up the speculation, and explains why my GM Mustang Boss 429 is numbered 1078 . Art, if you're reading this, many thanks for getting back to me so fast with the reply .
