The old Lesney really holds up well...better than the new one imo.
The stance, wheel placement, wheel size, and the protruding base throw off the new one.
Always sad to see de-evolution.

I agree with Dave
I had both the turquoise and the orange VWs as a child and they are both more fun to play with because they have suspension and an opening roof than Mattel Matchbox

I love it when these little cars have suspension. I've always thought the protruding base on the bus was odd, but it's a VW so I'll live with it. I don't think it's de-evolution because though the base is strange, the body is actually a better casting design and more realistic. The old ones are representative, but not entirely accurate, as was the case with most diecast of that era. I'd have them all, regardless.

I think rear wheel opening on the Mattel one is way to big.
Exept for the lack of tampo details on the Lesney, I don't see anything off about that one myself - just my opinion  - the Mattel one is still pretty good though. good thred discussion and great pix, C-Man!

I cant believe that base protrudes so low on the new one.
