This year the Midwest Triclone is proud to announce the first BRL Summer Nationals.
Dates: July 19,20,21,22.
Classes: Triclone Latemodels, Sportsman 13.5, Pro 10.5 (4300)
Whats on the line:
*The winning chassis manufacturer of Pro 10.5 (4300) is going to receive a 1 year promotion on the front page of our website (www.lefthander-rc.com)
*Cash Payouts (TBA)
*Trophies for the top 3 in all classes and the winners of the lower mains.
Notes:
This is a bring your own tires race BUT we will have sets for rent for the weekend for $20. Anyone who is in need of the rental tires MUST let us know a month in advance so we can get a jump on breaking the tires in. The cutoff date is the end of June. (New sets are $70-75ish)Most common tires: BLUE "S" NET RF, BLUE "L" P/L LF, BLUE "R" NET RR, GREEN or PINK "L" P/L LR
Tentative schedule:
Tuesday: Weekly Club race, racing at 7pm 3 heats and a main.
Thursday: Indoor pitting available. Controlled practice as needed, 30min sessions
Friday: Controlled practice by class. Depending on car counts in each class, roughly 30mins per class is expected. Depending on what the weather looks like we may try to sneak a qualifier in friday night.
Saturday: Controlled Practice followed by 3 qualifiers wrapping up by around dusk. We're looking at a special event to run under the lights for Saturday night.
Sunday: 4th qualifier and the mains and we will try to get everyone out at a resonable time hopefully by 3pm.

The Midwest Triclone has been around since the early 90's and has a long history. A first class facility featuring indoor and outdoor pitting you need nothing more than you racing stuff and a power strip. There are also spots for those who have race trailors. Hobby shop on site with GREAT food. Having held several National events such as the '96, '00, 04' ROAR Nats you can expect great racing and an awesome show. We're lucky enough to get to race there weekly, but to anyone who hasnt been made the trip you will not want to miss this. Great food, great people with a laid back atmosphere and fun is always had by all.

We are expecting a huge turnout and to surpass last years totals with National champs such as Monti Panzica, Danny B, John Foister, Corey Heft, Jimmy Flack and BRL 13.5 champ Pat Simkins. Also heard back from Humpty who is looking into plane tickets. Last year we had drivers from WI, IL, MI, MN, IA, IN, OH, LA, MO, NE.

The only rule changes we see needed for cap tire racing was with the 13.5 class allowed to run a wing and cut the body out and the roof height being 4.5" for cap tire racing. Any other questions will be addressed as they are brought up. Would like to thank Sonny B for the endorsement of this race but sadly he has prior commitments and wont be able to attend. I spoke with the always entertaining Danny Detlaff about helping with announcing along with Jamie Tennies.

Lots of great sponsors from last year getting on board again for this year. Working on a flyer that should be out soon. Anyone who will be attending please E-MAIL us @ order@lefthander-rc.com and I will start a signup list to post here. Any other questions also direct to the above email.

Hope to see a big crowd! Oval racing is on the rise lets make this an awesome race!

This is going to be an awesome race! Thanks Hays Sr. and Jr.!

For all the BRL guys who are typically foam tire only call Hays and reserve some rental caps. You won't be disappointed! The Tri-Clone is a track that everyone needs to race at least once.

From talking with Hays it sounds like it’s going to be a great event. They have some cool ideas and I’m sure the Tri-Clone crew will put on an awesome show as usual.

If you’re not a regular on caps give it a try. I think the loaner program they have is a great idea and I’m sure the regulars will help anyone out with set-up advice to get you dialed in.

As Hays said my schedule it pretty slammed this summer so it does not look like I will be able to make it up. I’m working a ton of USAC and Indycar events for my brothers new motorsports network RaceFanRadio.com. Check it out if you need your full size open wheel racing fix.

Good luck to all at the Summer Nats, looking forward to seeing everyone again in October for the kick off the Indoor season.

that part goes without saying. I ran there in the 90'sand then ran this event last year.. Without question the most helpfull group of people to race with.. Couldnt ask for a better event.. Now if they could just build a Chicago Bypass Id be running there every other week..

Rumor is we might see Zubie on Ice Skates in July...that will be worth the entry fee alone.

Speaking of who's in who's heat. Is there any chance we could do the 5 lap individual qualifier thing to seed the heats? There should be plenty of time and that tends to really clean things up.

Yeah I thought that was cool last year.. thats how we always used to set the heats back in the 1990's not sure why racing went away from that..

Hays Jr

We are looking into sorting the heats by practice times. If that isnt feasible we're planning on doing the 1min qualifiers again, I also thought those were fun and it adds a little bit of excitement.

I vote for the 1 min quals to seed the heats, it was rather entertaining last year. Lets just hope that at this BRL race you will be able to pratice!

I'm not sure how my name got on the list, But i'm not going to be able to make any weekend races this summer.. I work fri, sat, and sundays every week,, tuesday is my only day i can race..

if they start racing at 11 each day, i could come home after work, sleep till 10, and then race till 4 pm.. Thats 5 hours of sleep each day.. But if the racing goes after 4 i'll miss everything.. maybe I'll try to make a few of the qualifiers.. I doubt it.. but who knows..

One thing I forgot to mention was the Triclone is planning a warmup race for Saturday July 7th. Its a 1 day event and racing will start in the afternoon around 3ish and should be wrapped up by around 8ish. Should be a good test and tune prior to the big race.

Cool hopefully you can make it up.

Yea from what I understand the expensive small bottles are still available its the big bottles you cant get, but I could be wrong. Also I beleive as long as it says GR.8.800 you are good to go regardless of the part #. Seen as how the spraycan, big bottle, and small bottle all have different part numbers but all say GR.8.800 on them.

Mine was the BIG bottles.. they had tons of it when I stopped by... I told the guy I was glad to be able to get it since it was DISC.. he looked at me like I was crazy... He said no one has said anything to him about it.. Ill look at the PN when I get home. but volume wise this was the same LARGE METAL CAN that I came in last year..About the size of a 1 litre soda

the 8.800 is no more than a group # it could be brake cleaner to windshield washer fluid. the group #'s mean nothing as to what the product or part is. this is from 30 yrs. working at gm parts.

fwiw the stuff I bought was exactly the same.. I has a NOS can from last year.. I cracked it open and cracked 1 of the new cans open.. both 15 oz cans, both look/feel/smell the same.***Now I realize that is not a chemical anaylisis.. But I wiped some caps with both and they seemed to do the same thing... I guess ill see the first time the car hits the track...

Just got back from the track and all I can say is WOW, I didnt get a chance to race but did some spectating. This week the track was rolled and the corners were resealed and it is awesome. Excellent grip and tire wear was great talking to everyone. New track record in 4300 with Bill Sullivan running at 51/ 5:01 and Corey Heft within .5 a second of Sully. Pat Simkins took the TQ and new record in 13.5 with a 48/5:03. Bob Wright, Hays Sr Lloyd and Butch were all within striking distance of Pats TQ time with slow 48's and fast 47's.

Jimmy,
Yea the track is much smoother now and very racy. 5.6'sup front in 4300 ending with 5.9's/6.0's. Even though the lap times dropped the cars actually seemed slower since they were more stuck to the track. Can you still make it up for the race?.

I would love to make it down to SC, but dont have the $$$ now that theres a little mouth to feed. I know corey is hoping to go.

Jim, glad you can make it, its a very nice facility, plenty of pitting, plenty of tables and plenty of the best of the Jansen burgers and brats.
There is going to be a warm-up race this Sat. Racing starts at 1:30, but we could push it back if some people want to. The track will be open afterward for practice.
