I ran on it yesterday. The infield section has changed quite little bit and the location of the jumps has been changed. Ken was saying the changes were made last fall if that is helpful at all.

Man , What a cluster that was if I have ever seen one!!!I have seen more organization at backyard bash sessions. I am sure all the masters truck guys appreciated the on the spot change of order. It seems that at events that people are coming to from 3 different states you might want to keep a set schedule. I mean come on would it have really been an issue if the race order stayed the same as last year and we started the race order rotation at the Jones race??? You probally would have had a lot less ticked off Racers. I can count at least 4 masters guys that didnt make their first race because of the last minute race order change.Speaking of last minute changes, I really liked the last minute no mini-inferno rule in the UNLIMITED micro class. What the hell is that about when they were letting twin motor mini-lst's run the class last year?? If you want to run the mini's by roar rules then there should be a mini-buggy class ,and a mini-truck class ,wait a minute thats right there isnt even enough of us running minis this year to run for points.even with my son and I running mini infernos there was still only 6 of us. barely enough to run for trophies. So the mini-infernos were allowed to run once officials realized that if they refunded our entry fee they would probally be refunding 4 other entry fees.. I mean would you pay 25.00 just to go out and beat your car for NOTHING??? I can do that at home for free..One last topic that really needs to be addressed-MARSHALLING- What happened to the rules about marshalls goofing off when they should as our mars officials put it ' give the racers 5 minutes of their undivided attention' . During our mini MAIN two marshalls were standing in the hairpin just before the quads doing nothing but having a good old B.S. session. Laps should have been docked from their main. not a warning, not a slap on the wrist, laps should have been docked and I bet there wouldnt have been a next time to worry about. Come on it was a MAIN. If it was during an A buggy or A truck main people would have been docked for their lack of marshalling performance. The marshalling definitely affected the outcome. Herbie lee would have finished at least one position up from what he did. Also you mars officials-- The RULES State that we run numbers on our cars so if there is a transponder problem we can be hand counted, NOT lap times averaged. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND YOU MIGHT HAVE REALIZED THE LEADER FINISHED THE RACE 2 LAPS BEFORE YOU REALIZED THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I know easy for me to say, I am not the one running the scoring booth. As a racer I am the one that shelled out good money to the mars organization trusting that the event would run according to the pre-set rules and guidelines.maybe we need officials that are not participating in the events and are actually officiating over the event.I have never seen ANY event where officials can partake and not have it constitute a conflict of interest.Every one comments on how the mars events are getting a smaller and smaller turn out. After seeing the way things happened yesterday its really no big mystery why the turn-outs are getting smaller. And will keep getting smaller unless things change. This whole ' this our series and we will run it the way we like ' attitude has to go. This is a racers series and the reality of it is without racers you have NO series gentlemen. The way things are being run is not how you keep racers interested in the series. Last minute changes after people have driven 3 or 4 hours to come run the series are uncalled for and a little ridiculous.

There was definetly a lack of turn mashalling. In 1 of my mains it looked like a party was going on it the quad section. After the race I went to the officials and told them about it.They fixed the problem.Maybe at Jones, remind everybody at the drivers meeting 5 times, instead of 3,about turn marshalling. All in all,I had a good time. Thanks everyone who works to make the MARS series.

WHAT A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ JOKE I've been doing the Mar's for a long time. It's not the same. What happend to the annoucer say number 4 truck rough driving. Clean things up or when your just plan ran over in the stright away who ever Hacked you waits till you recover not to advace 3 spots.
I've met alot of Quality people at this event I'm gonna miss Most of them.

I'm trying to understand some of the posts here. Yep, as with any race there will be issues and MARS does have some. But what I'm not understanding is this mini-inferno confusion. The flyer posted long ago states 1/18th class and not unlimited mini. The mini-inferno is a 1/16th scale so does not qualify for a 1/18th scale class. That they allowed it to let the class run is nice for those that brought 1/18ths because if not for the two 1/16ths the class would not have qualified for trophies. None of this was last minuet as it was clearly spelled out in the flyer. The rotation of stock and mod was posted in the original thread for the MARS series and the order of classes was never pre announced and they did sill run stock first and mod second. With the late start no one should have been caught short on the start of the race. Running mod myself it would be nice to be the early finish some times. Either way I'm not sure how that would effect who drove from where as actual finish times change for a lot of reasons so other than start times, no one has control of final finish times.

As to the officials also racing, other than national/world level events, it is hardly is uncommon.

So 4 drivers were not ready for a heat that that started 50 min late. Ummm, was the order run different than what was posted on the heat board?

Now I 100% agree marshalling was bad. Sadly some of the worst performances were turned in by top qualifying drivers (. This always seams to be an issue, be it MARS or other events. But this weekend was really bad. Though there were also a number of drivers no helping. I had more than one car pull the trigger with the car still in my hand, worst part was it was in an A main. I did not see a cell phone conversation, but if that happened, that should get the driver tossed for the day.

You likely won't see one. Most are not computer users and the ones that did I think gave up after it was just flames and crabbing all the time.

For the 1/18th class, they made a change last year and again this year to keep the class alive by letting in the 1/16th's insted of just runing 4 of the 1/18th's for no points and no trophies yet still having to charge full rate per the rules.

The masters class change at the last min I have still not heard what changed from the time the heat board was posted that caused drivers not to be ready for a race that started 50 min late.

As for the marchelling/scoring/numbers/rough driving, theses are no win topicis to discuss on the boards and never have been. They become crab sessions if they enforce rules or don't. Heck they tried to enforce the 1/18th rule and got crabed at for it! There is a reason there is a phone number on the bottom of the flyer, try calling it. I've had many a talk with Bruce and if you approch him politely you would be suprised what you might get. Approch Bruce like many of the posts here, save the call as you likely won't geat any progress. (Not pointing fingers at anyone, just a VERY general statement.)

I talked to ROAR the other day about some of these matters. They told me since Mars
isn't a sanction event they don't get involved .They use roar for insurance purpoes only. All new racer's or old that hav'nt been to a REAL ROAR OR NORCA EVENT'S
should go so they can get a clue what's really goin on.

420 Tech R/C
05-25-2007, 01:55 PM
word to what airconde said..roar and norca events are by the book smooth.no b.s. and 100% by the rule book.if you guys running minis want to run by roar rules, thats fine with me. 6 cells . no lipos. handout motors. different classes for truck and buggy, not to mention 2wd and 4wd in different classes.(herbie rocked it with a 2wd mini-t last season.)As long as we stick to them, and there is none of this letting other stuff in just so mars can make the $$$ off the class.if there isnt enough of a show to even run for trophies then so be it, dont run the class.I dont know about you but it seems kinda silly to shell out the extra $$$ to run the class if you arent running for points or trophies. But what airconde points out is the way it is.Mars is NOT a roar sanctioned series.Mars simply picks and chooses which rules they want and when they want to follow them.If they wanted to run a strictly 1/18 scale class then the infernos and mini-lst's should NEVER have been allowed to run the class. But dont let it happen and then expect people to be o.k. with it when you say without warning on the day of a race (and after entry fees had already been paid i might add) that what they ran last year with out any dispute over it of any kind, is now not allowed.everyone around here with the exception of the guys on the west side of the state run the mini-infernos in the 1/18 scale class. Dan at washtenaw runs them in the 1/18 class all winter long. And hey guys the 1/16 scale platform DOES out-perfom the 1/18 scale platform, especially on 1/10 scale tracks. it actually is driveable. Thats the biggest reason I have heard from racers that were running 18t's is that the bigger tracks are just too rough for the 1/18 scale cars.Doing well is more about just keeping it on all four wheels than it is about racing on a 1/10 scale track. so why not use what works well?? Most people say that they dont want to spend more money when they already have a 1/18 scale car. Well heres the deal. Starting in june I will be RAFFLEING OFF 2 ready to run 1/16 scale cars at every mars event the rest of the season. These are the same car that I ran BOX STOCK with AA batteries at jones last year and placed 3rd. I seriously took the car out of the box the day before I raced it at jones. So for the cost of a few raffle tickets you will be able to check out a 1/16 scale set-up, and if you dont like it slap it on e-bay.

sweet on the CRT 18th scale !! I had been thinkin about that just due to the 2.2 wheels and tires it uses.It would have to handle a 1/10 scale track just awesome . Hey 1/18 th scale that mini-mars idea, How would you like to run for a 50/50 winner takes 50% of the entry fees purse????I have a couple other guys with mini-scale tracks that would be down for a rotation style monthly circuit race as long as all participants were ROAR members for insurance purposes.
