Just wanted to give everyone an update on our new suspension arms. This project has taken a little longer than expected but the end result will be worth it. We will be getting test samples shortly. I have a few drivers already picked out for testing. When I am happy with the results we will go into full production, not before. IRS is closed till the 10th of May but I will try to keep in contact via e-mails. Again I want to express my thanks for everyone's patience with this project.

The same a-arm will work on both sides of the car and they will allow the usage of smaller diameter tires.

The prototypes I saw in Florida were awesome and will be well worth the wait! These new a-arms are able to be used on both the right front and left front. And they are a considerable amount lower than even the lowest current a-arms. Dave has really been doing his homework with these, and I know the end result will be worth it!!!

Keep up the great work Dave!!!! Thanks for everything!!!!

They can be used on either side of the car, beside that I don't think any geometry has changed. Knowing Dave it will be a better quality more precision part then what is currently in production by Associated.

My new power supplies have plenty of voltage now. That's the cheapest 75 and 40 amp power you can ever hope for. $44 for the both of them. I guess it pays to have electrical eng on staff.

Hey everyone,
Here is an update on the new arms. First test was last night at a tight carpet track with boards. 3 of us used 1/12th cars with 19t motors. The arms performed very well. They where impact tested frequently by yours truely. Mike Mulherin and Mike Ivy added their impacts also. Mike Ivy had the best when he hit the inside wall then slammed into the outside wall. The impact was so extreme the batteries and speedo where ejected. The arms where just fine. Between use we did about 8 runs without any problems with the arms.
The next tests are a large asphalt track using a 1/12th car and a 1/10th car at Trax 70, a concrete banked track. I'll keep everyone informed of results.

Ralf,
The arms we presently sell are modified Associated arms. The new arms we ar testing are our own design. They are made to be used on the right or left side. You only need 1 spare.

The Trax 70 test went great. I ran the Novak 4300 motor. I wall tested the arms several times and added a couple of flips just to make sure and they held up great. I hope to be testing at Willow Mill this weekend.

Willow Mill was a great day of racing. To bad mother nature didn't want us to finish. This is the 3rd track and 3rd different car I have tested the new arms on and the are holding up very well. I tried to knock down the turn 2 wall but it and the new arm proved to be stronger than my lack of talent, thank goodness.
I am waiting for the shims to be made so we can start packaging them. It hopefully will be within 4 weeks.
The testing will continue.

Dave...........the test will be at Freddies Hobbies in Ohio!!!! The race line for pan cars is about 400ft. Smooth and fast. Mods are hitting speeds of 50mph or better!!!

Rick,
I'm giving serious thoughts to attending that race.
The testing I've done at Trax 70, old Mega Track, I would say is on par with Freddies. It's around 400' and with my 4300 brushless I've broken the 6 second mark. There is very little room for error.

Rick,
We do have a slight advantage at Trax 70, the 3 turns are very banked. The down side is when you hit the wall it is a very hard impact. :freak:

Just want to let everyone know the new IRS Lower Suspension Arms are here. We will have them on the web site ASAP. The kit will include 2 arms, 4 0.055" & 4 0.100" thick spacers, & 4 screws. These arms are designed to work on the left or right side of your 1/10th or 1/12th cars. They are designed to replace the Associated lower arm for more adjustability and durability.
I will have them available to the racers at Freddie's this weekend through the hobby store.

Hey Dave, a couple of us are having trouble with the lower arms being too tight with the pivot balls installed. Any tips?

Thanks.

AJS
10-24-2007, 08:58 AM
Mike that is easy, use smaller balls!!!!!!!!

Diff Dude
10-24-2007, 12:42 PM
MK Race,
My question to you is, are you installing the ball through the large diameter hole? If you are and it is still a little tight you can squeeze the arm with the ball installed with pliers and it will free up the ball. Please don't get nuts with the pliers just be firm when you squeeze it. Let me know how you make out.

I had a little trouble with them being tight too. They were the KSG balls with the grooves but they seem fine in the Associated arms. I'll try it again with some Associated balls.

Diff Dude

Mach10,
Do the plier trick with your KSG pivot balls it should work.
What it does is help confrom the plastic around the pivot ball if it is alittle larger than normal.

AJ, Bob had no problem, must be the smaller balls.:D

be very careful when using pliers on the ksg grooved pivot balls. they can crack..they are made of some other material and do not have alot of give. the pivot ball tool irs sells does come in handy.

btw i love the new arms and side shocks! keep on keeping on.

Katfish,
Thanks for letting me know the KSG pivot balls are kind of fragile. I had assumed they where aluminum, my bad.
I do recommend using our IRS1376 pivot ball tool. I've had people tell me they used pliers to install the pivot ball. This will deform the ball and cause problems.

I do have one of those tools. I think it works great!

Danny B

For what it's worth. the KSG are made a little bit oversized to compensate for the "loose" tolerances of an associated arm. It seems Dave's arms are a little smaller to compensate for the "loose" tolerences of the associated balls. Both are great products but just don't seem to work very well together...

P.S. KSG pivot balls are teflon impregnated plastic. One option might be to take a little material off the balls with very fine grit sandpaper. bolt, nut, dremel.
