seveland 04-26-2007, 03:57 AM I noticed motormax sponsors this forum. does anyone from the company ever read the threads here?
I really like the frash Cherries and American Graffiti 1/64 lines. They are nice castings, great detail, nice rubber tires, and even with the recent 50 cent increase, are one of the best bargains in the diecast world. Other companies charger $4-$5 for cars of the same quality.
Anyhow, I wa thinking I how i would really like to see a muscle car lineup done in the same fashion as the cherries and graffiti cars. Anyone else? They already have the 69 GTO & 71 impala castings from the graffiti line, and could use the 71 mustang sportroof from the cherries. Throw in nine new castings like 69 dodge charger, 70 plymouth cuda, an olds 442, a 69 camaro, a chevelle, a mercury cougar XR7, a 67 mustang, a buick GSX, and maybe a 70 superbee, and you'd have a winning lineup. Would probably grab the attention of diecast collectors who are not yet buying the motormax products too.
Another lineup I'd like to see done in similar fasion would be tuners. They already have some great castings in the 3" line that you can buy for aroun 70 cents a piece. Especially the toyota supra and nissan skyline stand out in my mind. Do some new colors, paint a little extra detail, throw on some wheels with rubber tires, and package them in a plastic blister similar to the fresh cherries and american graffiti, and you have another line of premium cars.
Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas on product lines such as these? Would you buy them?
madmanmark 04-26-2007, 06:21 AM Musclecars are pretty much been-there-done-that. Everyone from Maisto to the Mints is doing them. Motormax have found a unique niche which they should aggressively exploit. Rather than Chargers, 'Cudas, and 442s, they should concentrate on Monacos, Furys, and Delta 88s.
By the way, Johnny Lightning has all those musclecars you seek.
Lpgeoteacher 04-26-2007, 07:55 AM I just wish they would get into older imports. I'd love to see VW Proto Types in 1/64.
Mark Hosaflook 04-26-2007, 08:51 AM Yes they do read the threads and in all honesty, I told them to either limit their involvement or find a spokesperson to be a type of moderator. I have never seen a time where it benefits a company to get directly involved with us. It may start off great but it usually goes south fast. Instead I advised them to channel their efforts into things like AutoFest where they could test some ideas and get feedback in a more personal format where talking face to face and discussing business is better handled. There are many new things being done this year and many on the drawing boards based on ideas and feedback from this source. You are being heard even if direct replies are not made.
Castings. It was made very clear to me where and how MM and FC got to this point. It was the Pintos, Vegas and Gremlins of the world. At first I myself thought they were crazy but in a world that offers 168 versions of the 1968 Camaro, if you want to succeed in a niche market, do you make another '68 Camaro or do you make a Pacer? They know their base, they know where it came from and they know in a tough market that they better be different or else. I applaud this! Now that doesn't mean they may never do a Camaro but what it does mean is, they'd probably look at the "Bluebird and Redbird" type of thing. Something fresh and ripe...........like a fresh cherry!
I'm not answering for them, merely stating feedback I have gotten through my many conversations. They are great people to work with and they are paying attention.
Mark Hosaflook 04-26-2007, 09:04 AM I also think that many more people are paying attention to the line now and if some of those castings were brought back out like the Impala, Caprice and T-bird without the flames and done stock, that these could do really well.

I agree. A Caprice Classic (Like the 1974 I owned) would be a great casting. In the VW line a type 34 would be a great niche car to do. Even the porsche 914 would be another.

I agree with this point. No one else has done most of these castings before that MM has. I as a collector do not need anymore 57 chevys, camaros, or older vettes. Let motormax stick to this niche market that they've found and leave it at that.
Happy Hunting (Diecast)

rlyoung1 04-26-2007, 11:43 AM Hopefully more of these cars being done in the smaller scale show up in the 1/24 line. I need more variety in my customs. :)

I second that !!!!!

stanmmx 04-26-2007, 11:26 PM Dear All:
Station Wagons, please!! Can be from either era. Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning scored when they introduce their early 1950's Mercury Wagon (in real life, only 1000 1949-1951 Merc SW were done) and there were rumours of a 1974 Chevy SW;even Maisto brought a Chevrolet 1962 SW,and as I saw on this site, more Wagons are sought. And Motormax can use another niche,if that is the case.
The 1/87 Ford Fairmont Sedan and Station Wagon from Atlas was also enthusiasticaly received by the Model Railroader folk;I think that a 1/60 version may also be sucessful. And,yes, keep doing these cars no one want to (in both 1/60 and 1/87 fine as well).
madmanmark 04-27-2007, 06:45 AM A line of just wagons... call 'em Cherry Crates (sorry, Schwinn) !!

1971 Ford Country Squire
1972 Buick Estate Wagon
1971 Plymouth Sport Suburban

I did. I think the Vista Cruisers, Safari Wagons, Sport Wagons and such are just outstanding looking.
I also think the bathtub wagons, Roadmaster, Impala etc of the late 80's 90's are really cool too!

I like these,too. Last of a breed.

this was my baby, but the transmission quit just before Christmas at 180k... decided I'd be better off to put the $$$ towards a Pacifica. I miss this car...

I'd buy any and all wagons MotorMax put out. (Including a Pacifica, hey, haven't seen a diecast one of them yet.) I'm eagerly awaiting the LeBaron T&C...

I love this car. I think it will be a classic. I know people think I'm crazy now but someday?
stanmmx 04-28-2007, 09:33 PM Dear Mark:
You are not crazy. These cars - Caprice,Roadmaster,Olds Cruiser Wagon,Cadillac Brougham were the last of a breed,as far as GM was concerned,of a truly full-size,rwd cars and Station Wagons,so they have a special page on Automotive History.Alas, the Brougham, even in 2006 was a best-seller for Cadillac, despite of wearing a chassi that came all the way from 1977.
The same happens with the Dodge St.Regis/Gran Fury/Newport,which was the final of the full size, rwd sedans from that manufacturer (despite their poor perfomance, quality problems and Chrylser's troubled moments then);as far as their large wagons were concerned, that will be a split between the 122 and 118 inch wheelbase Monaco/etc (full-size and mid-size,respectively).
Ford is the sole US manufacturer (despite the fact that these are built in Canada) which offers a true full size car,the Vic/Marquis et al,which are supposed to be discontinued in 2010.

ParkRNDL 04-29-2007, 08:46 PM postscript... went past the used car dealer where I bought that one yesterday. Now he has a loaded '96 for sale... 101K miles, Collectors Edition (I think all the '96s were), white with burgundy velour, looks pretty nice, for $4500...
oh, if I hadn't just spent 15K on that Pacifica...

madmanmark 04-30-2007, 06:31 AM I love these, too. It would be really easy for Motormax to render these in 1/24 since they already have the Caprice sedan. A new body, interior tub, and glass are all they need. They can even reuse the doors and hood !
slythorne 04-30-2007, 12:12 PM I can tell MotorMax this much.. if they came out with the '74-76 "Clamshell" GM Wagons in 1/24th scale, wether Kingswood or not, they would fly off the shelves. The derby guys just gobble them up :) I would like to make some customs in 1/64th scale of them too lol
seveland 05-02-2007, 03:44 AM How about '78 Dodge Magnum or Chrysler Cordoba?
http://www.carr.org/~gripper/images/vehicles/magnum1.jpghttp://barkbarkwoofwoof.blogspot.com/uploaded_images/640_1976ChryslerCordobaSportCoupe-730739.jpg
and an 80's AMC Eagle 4wd wagon?
http://www.carr.org/~eripper/images/vehicles/eagle.jpg
Maybe a Mercury Lynx (mustang or escort sister car?) from the early-mid 80s?

Also, even though it can be considered a muscle car, I don't think any other companies have made this yet. How about some Pontiac Grand Prix from 65, 67, 69, and 77?

madmanmark 05-02-2007, 06:34 AM I'd take all of those - especially the Cordoba if it comes with a little Ricardo Montalban figure.
Mark Hosaflook 05-03-2007, 08:41 AM ...with rich Corinthian leather.
madmanmark 05-03-2007, 09:20 AM ...and Tattoo in the trunk.
ilikecolllectdi 05-03-2007, 12:12 PM I will love to se and of course to get, a 1/60-64 scale Chrysler Cordoba of 1975-77, also the generations of pontiac grand prix never made, like 1967, 1969, 1973, 1977, 1978 models
craftymore 05-03-2007, 12:56 PM How about the 1970 Buick Electra 225 with crager rims? That would be an awesome car in 1/60.
