View Full Version : Old interviews redefine 'Star Wars' story Zorro 04-23-2007, 11:00 AM http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/04/23/film.starwars.reut/index.html Griffworks 04-23-2007, 11:51 AM Sounds like a book worth getting. Thanks for the link. Dave Hussey 04-23-2007, 11:58 AM Cool article. The last line is funny; Lucas has more "chickens" now than even the Colonel could have ever dreamed of! :D Huzz chiangkaishecky 04-23-2007, 12:16 PM I'd really like to see print reviews of the era proving Lucas' claim that "Star Wars" wasn't well reviewed by most critics at the time. PhilipMarlowe 04-23-2007, 01:10 PM I'd really like to see print reviews of the era proving Lucas' claim that "Star Wars" wasn't well reviewed by most critics at the time. I can remember Harlan Ellison and several other prominent science fiction critics who absolutely slammed Star Wars when it was initially released. And with the exception of Ford and Guiness, reviews from mainstream critics for the other actor's performances were less than glowing. Carson Dyle 04-23-2007, 01:12 PM I'd really like to see print reviews of the era proving Lucas' claim that "Star Wars" wasn't well reviewed by most critics at the time. Time magazine proclaimed it the Best Movie of the Year, and reviews in the Los Angeles Time, New York Times, and Chicago Tribune were equally enthusiastic. I seem to recall Pauline Kael and Rex Reed slamming Star Wars, but for the most part the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. I can remember Harlan Ellison and several other prominent science fiction critics who absolutely slammed Star Wars when it was initially released. True, but Ellison and his ilk were never taken seriously by anyone who could get beyond the "there's no sound in space" mentality. frankenstyrene 04-23-2007, 05:20 PM So THAT'S why no one can hear you scream. Carson Dyle 04-24-2007, 09:41 PM Just got back from Barnes and Noble. Wow. I've waited thirty years for this book, and by golly it does not disappoint. If you only buy one Star Wars-themed book in your life, this is the one to get. An amazing chronicle of what, at the time, was a very unlikely blockbuster. Whether you're a S.W. fan, or a fan of movies in general, "The Making of Star Wars" is a must-have. ChrisW 04-24-2007, 10:04 PM Now that's a recommendation! MartinHatfield 04-25-2007, 08:12 AM If I may add my two cents. If you can dish out the extra $40.00, I suggest buying the hardback adition. It contains more than 50 more pages, consisting mainly of storyboards from the film. Griffworks 04-25-2007, 09:26 AM It's available from Amazon.com for $44.99 (LINK (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0345494768/ref=ord_cart_shr/102-1358132-7238558?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance)). The paperback is selling for $23.10 thru Amazon, as well. beatlepaul 04-25-2007, 01:36 PM I ordered the paperback version from Amazon Last week. I recieved it yesterday.
