i got tired of haveing my larger size pinions not fit right on any rack out that is made now, so im making my own. made from plastic, with stainless 3mm rods, general set up is the same size as the paragon ones ( 5 1/2 inches long, holds 20 pinions ) . but i can make em smaller or larger, you just let me know. and like i said above, if its for the larger size pinions ( 64 pitch, generally anything over 38-39 teeth ) i space the rods out. that will fit 10 pinions with the same size bar. but you let me know what you are looking for and i should be able to work it out. also going to do 2mm rods for 1/18 scale pinions for the mini guys !! the general rack will be 8 bucks shipped in the usa, i take paypal and money orders. also can make little number stickers, you just have to tell me what numbers you want. you can either post here, pm me or email me, briano_72@yahoo.com

added pics, the 10 gear one has a 55 and 56 on it, they are the biggest gears i have right now, the 14 gear rack is showing 44,45,46 and 47, the 46 and 47 are touching. i could do a 12 gear rack to space em a little more. but that gives you an idea of em.

just added the mini style, it holds 10 2mm pinions, thats mini t, 18t,b,r and whatever else assoc. desides to do with that truck, brp, scalpel, micro rs4, mamba size pinions. they are 7 bucks shipped in the usa. and again, if you need a differant version of it, lemme know !! these are 3 inches wide and 1 inch wide with the pins.

check with any of the SIGN type guys (like Jeff) and see if they do something similar to the Vinyl Wraps.

You could do a logo design with the individual numbers all on one piece of vinyl designed to fit

I'll have to look, but with our Velo gears and B/L stuff, I know I go upto 55, and will probably go as close to 60 as possible...

Nice Job.

ralf, sent you an email, if you want a rack for up to a 50 tooth pinion, you need a 10 gear holder rack, the 14 holds up to a 46-47, if you read my first post.

Have you tried making the caddy out of .75 soild bar aluminum? Then I Could have a compact quad-sided caddy. and could possibly put two side by side in a plano 370 tray.

brian,

do you drill your holders to just fit the pin configuration ordered or could we order some with random, or pattern drilled holes so they could be used differently in the future as needed? (I'm thinking holes every .200" to .250") with extra pins.

briano_72
05-09-2007, 05:10 AM
i can do whatever you want, but at .200 to .250, what size gears you gonna fit on there ??

I think the idea is to have alot of holes on .200 centers then supply like 10 pins. So the user can insert pins into any hole he wants to use, not all of them. They may choose to use hole 1, hole 4, then hole 8, etc.

Mr. Valentine...You win the prize...;)

Briano, Mike made my point exactly.

You wouldn't need to make them 'custom' just drill them so that the user can install the pins in the location needed (which sometimes changes over the years)

I move the pins around in my PARAGON units that look really similar to what you have here. The PARAGON units are on about .575" center from pin hole to pin hole, and they have 10 pins. My thought was moving the pins a little closer, for more adjustment choice to maximize it's function.

now i see, but all you would ever need is about 3 racks. i have on 3 racks, 19 to 56, skipping nothing.

on my paragon holders I have 2 each of everything - each pin has 2 of the same gear (My son and I use the same box, and sometimes we run as many as 4-5 cars between us)

I have 3 of the old paragon units that look similar to yours, 3 old RPM plastic type and a couple other oddball holders. plus a couple bags of spares (that are usually missing the sets screws cause I stole them for another gear.

I wouldn't need anything quite as extreme as what I proposed....because I mostly use the big gears now....but I run 19t, 4300, & Mod on everything from short carpet to velodrome so I might run a 120/20 this week and a 88/55 next week
