I lived in Maui back in the 80s and was lucky to see him a few times. Even though he was 76, it seemed he was older somehow. I want to place him the Dean Martin / Frank Sinatra era. His voice could always bring a smile.

Wife and I had our First Wedding Anniversary in Hawaii. We stayed three nights at the Hale Koa hotel - right next to the hotel (Hilton?) of which Don Ho's show took place. Wife and I were lucky enough to catch one of the shows and really enjoyed it.

I was actualy at Don Ho's studio and on TV. My parents, back in '85, sang with a concert choir with Thurlo Spur (of Jim and Tammy Baker fame). They did a televised concert in '85 at Ho's studio. I was an usher and having the same blue and white Hawaiin shirts, camera pans the audience and (looking the same as the singers) zooms in on me standing at the door! Spent two weeks in Hawaii. What a great place, and what a great loss of an iconic entertainer.
