i baught a go kart and it has a 5hp briggs engine and i have no spark changed plugs no spark held the plug and it didnt shock at all how can i fix this?

if its a points and condenser one the points may be dirty, broken, or something else. the ignition coil may be bad, or there maybe rust on the flywheel.

Make sure there isn't a kill switch interfering... take the wire (small tiny wire) off the coil and give it a try. Rust really doesn't affect spark that much. Whats the model,type and code off the engine? To be sure at least what year it is.. post the code should be on top or on the side of the engine shroud.

just wondering bugman.. where do you connect a kill switch on a briggs 5 hp

Wire goes to the throttle at the back under the tank near the governor usually. But can be straight from the coil to a simple switch that when flipped grounds it out.
