I am surprised by this. When LIS came out, the full 1st season came out. Then it did not sell as good, because of the price. So, the rest of the series, Time Tunnel, and VTTBOTS, were released 1/2 season at a time. I prefer one season at a time. But then,
we can get LOTG out of the way, with one set.

As much as I'd like to have the entire series all at once.....it's hard to justify paying over a hundred dollars on DVDs all at once. I prefer the installment plans with easily chewable and small digestible parts that cost less than $30 at a time. Besides, there is usually a lot more artwork since each box will need to have something on it.

Of all of Irwin Allen's 1960's shows, LOTG is my least favorite, and I'll be passing up this set. I my low level of interest just can't justify the cost.

I'm not trying to be harsh here. I quickly snapped up the Lost in Space sets, even though I've still not gone through all the shows (some are, admittedly painful to watch). My second favorite was the Time Tunnel. Wildly improbable, but the idea of traveling through time always has appealed to me. I got both sets of this one.

I do have the first season of VTTBS and half the second. Somehow the show seems to have less luster after all these years. I probably won't buy the rest, unless I can get them for half price somewhere.

Maybe that'll be the reason I eventually do buy LOTG. For some reason, the show just never jelled with me.

I do have the Columbia House DVD version of the first three episodes. One thing that stood out for me was a shot, during the pilot, of Mark Wilson somehow managing to cut electrical power on the ship. I never noticed before that was shot on the soon-to-be-demolished Jupiter II set. Sad.

We're all entitled to our opinions, and as far as Irwin Allen's shows are concerned, there seems to be very little middle ground between those who love the shows, and those who, for whatever reason, loathe them.
As for me, I couldn't be happier, and have marked my calender to board suborbital flight 612 to London, the Spindrift, on July 24th, which is also Mark ("Maj. Don West") Goddard's birthday (and yes, you'd have to be an obsessed fan to know that)!

I enjoyed the Irwin Allen shows with the first, and in some cases, the second seasons. It seems after that, most of these shows later became the "monster of the week" shows. LIS really went downhill when they were using talking vegetables and beach balls for land mines. Even Voyage started using the same costumes used in LIS for undersea monsters. This was all too campy for me following the campy footsteps of the 66' Batman series. I have the first 2 seasons of Voyage, LIS, and all of the Time Tunnel. I think I'll pass on LOTG until I can find them at a Walmart ben for half price.

I don't know what relative age some of you guys are but each subsequent Irwin Allen series appealed to me less as I got older. The increasing "campiness" didn't help. By the time LOTG premiered I was in 6th grade and couldn't even stay interested. Tried watching a few episodes when it was running on Sci-Fi a few years back and couldn't even enjoy it for the "nostalgia" factor.

I would like to see these shows again for the 'nostalgia factor' but, I can't see making that big of an investment.

Like Scott, I didn't find this series to be that good. The first few episodes were fine and thereafter, it was pretty 'hit and miss'. It was all pretty predictable and hackneyed after it got started. It's one of those shows that I want to enjoy more than I really do.

It IS ALL ABOUT nostalgia for me! All the above mentioned shows are, at times, as silly as Pee Wees Playhouse and sometimes not as well done!

But I grew up on these goofy shows and can easily justify a100 bucks for some laffs and sharing the good old days with whomever might like to watch with me.

BTW lots of kids these days put Star Trek (TOS) in the same shlock catagory as the I.A. series. I disagree of course, but times and taste have changed since then.

I certainly disagree as well. Just sayin' LOTG didn't do it for me when I was a kid either. Of course, I've been eyeballing a DVD of Diver Dan for my own personal collection - so who am I to throw stones? ;)

I'm somewhat confused with the cool response to the LOTG DVD set, while Moebius Models is enjoying an explosion of enthusiasm over his announcement of models from those same shows.

As for me, the only Irwin Allen series I got to watch was Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I've only seen ocasional bits and pieces of the others so their DVDs appeal to my desire to finally see those shows.

I'd love more model kits based on the Batman TV show - but there's no way I'd drop a couple of hundred bucks for the entire series. I'd be happy to own the first season at a reasonable price and that would be sufficient for me. I'd be willing to spend a lot more on the model kits than I would on the series, to be honest.

Ditto....I love the ships even if I don't completely like the shows. The ships I'll love building and displaying as a part of my childhood memories.....er. along with those of Deanna Lund, Angela Cartwright, Batgirl and a few others.:p

I have to agree with the poster above. LOTG just got predictable after a while. And it was always frustrating that they never got that bloody ship moving. At least we always knew the Jupiter II would fly again -- and the Robinsons had a lot fewer resources than the Sprindrift crew!

As far as these old shows are concerned, there is a lot of nostalgia in them for me, but even the best memories go a bit stale. I loved Wild Wild West as a kid, but it's not the same now. Same with VTTBOTS -- I have the first season and half of the second, but it just got hard to watch.

On reflection, though I'd like to see the Batman series again, I think I'd only want to rent it or buy it at Wal-Mart. Same reasons. Perhaps the only show I'd buy outright would be The Man From UNCLE. I've got a few on tape, and they're still good. Hokey, but good.

The Man From UNCLE runs on The American Life Channel and does indeed hold up quite well, IMHO.

I loved the Man from UNCLE. But ya know, it's weird to watch a show where the actors almost look like teenagers when they onced looked like "older" men in my eyes. Still, it's good to see many of the actresses in their YOUNG earlier roles.....love the 60's

Frets,
I got it from the tvshowsonDVD website. It's now available for preorder from Best Buy and Amazon for around $150 and get this; the whole set is supposed to be boxed like one of those "little people trap" cages that figured so prominently on the series.

Seaview is correct, it's going to be packaged in a recreation of the Little People trap from the show. It's also going to include an accurate reproduction of the flight crew insignia patch and a Spindrift keychain.

I can live without the doo-dads & gimmicky packaging (hope it'll fit in my DVD cabinet!)...just gimme the DVDs!

BTW: somebody mentioned The Invaders a few posts back and I remember having a lot of episodes on VHS (late '80s?) that I bought at KMart. I think they were released by Goodtimes Video so they were al recorded in SLP mode, but obviously the license must be available. Anybody know if they're coming to DVD?

uuugghh. $150 :freak: I would have preferred two $40 or $50 dollar season. There are only 51 episodes. Thats like $75 for 25 eps, 1 season. I knew these would be overpriced when I heard they were going to put them all in one boxed set. PLUS they will be double sided discs. For a $150 price you would think the discs would be better quality. I have had to many problems with these type of discs. Looks like the price is going into the toy packaging. Think I will wait for a regular box version or just rent them. Sad since I have been waiting a long time for this. Seems like many potential buyers are turned off by this set.

Actually, the LIS problem wasn't price but crappy transfers. I think the VHS cassettes are better.

It's times like this I miss Brent Gair. A discussion of Irwin Allen DVD's just isn't the same without him.

It's also going to include an accurate reproduction of the flight crew insignia patch.

In other words, the Galaxy insignia from the Flint series turned clockwise 90 degrees.

Cool!

I miss the esteemed Mr. Gair, too! I still love that scratchbuilt Spindrift of his, too!
I for one am planning on devoting a shelf to this DVD set; on the left of the box will be my Lunar Spindrift (not as great as Troy's, but a labor of love nevertheless!) and on the right will be my PL Snake Scene diorama. :hat:

Yeah, I kind of miss hearing how the LIS DVD's are the worst looking DVDs ever and how great ABBA is.

And nobody's called me a elitist luddite in ages.

Whew, now that that photo's been released, I can say that my company produced the patch and keychain (which look a bit too small in that photo, but will be full sized on a color backing card) that come with the set, rather than hinting about it.
