Which compounds last the longest? burbs 04-09-2007, 11:52 AM My apologies for posting my expirience with brand a tires.. charger01 04-09-2007, 12:18 PM Burbs- thanks, does bsr have the larger wheel size that has become so popular? this is the main reason I mentioned them. Echeconnee 04-09-2007, 01:14 PM Don't forget RC4LESS Monti007 04-09-2007, 10:38 PM Burbs- thanks, does bsr have the larger wheel size that has become so popular? this is the main reason I mentioned them. Yes! John has just come out with a new rim that is the same size as CRC but on a band new rim that he just released a month ago. Give him a call. -Monti- reggie's dad 04-10-2007, 05:40 AM I've had much better luck using RC for less 1/12th scale tires on my carpet knife than the current crc tires both old style and pro cuts. speedxl 04-10-2007, 10:04 AM Rc4less has the best rubber out there by far. I have had no issues with tires chunking using rc4less. Give Bruce a call I promise you wont be dissappointed. H. Garcia Jack Rimer 04-10-2007, 01:45 PM Chunking happens when you hit something. As long as the tire stays glued on the wheel, there is no one brand that is less or more prone to chunking. I would spend less time looking in the trash can and more time looking in the winners circle. That's where you will find the JACO's. EAMotorsports 04-10-2007, 02:07 PM I may be sponsored by Jaco but I can tell you that I ran 12th scale at 4 major races (3 A mains) this winter in On-road and have NEVER to this date chunked a 12th scale tire OR peeled one from the rim!! And I hit enough stuff to test them!! If you are chunking tires then you do not have your body mounted properly or wheel wells cut the right way and are tapping boards. But even if your body is cut the right way tapping boards will not cause chunked tires for the most part. EA burbs 04-10-2007, 02:27 PM My apologies for posting my expirience with brand a tires..I guess my expirience and wasted 100+ on tires isnt a reason for concern.. charger01 04-10-2007, 02:48 PM Thanks, Burbs I am not a new racer, but where I race in Pa we are still in the stone age! to give you some idea, 10l3's are still a fairly new car! In all seriousness I appreciate what you said and since I am really new at computers I am also apreciative of hobbytalk. charger01 04-10-2007, 02:51 PM Todd Putnam, what is your take on tires? Todd Putnam 04-10-2007, 03:01 PM Tires can infact chunk without touching a thing, even with a properly mounted body. At the IIC race, I wrenched Jeff Dayger's 1/12th Mod car all week. He wasn't running JACO's, but the tires he was running chunked... both rears chunked as well as the fronts started to peel/tear the sidewalls while on a TQ run. He never touched a thing, and he pulled off once the tire problems surfaced, at about the 6.5 minitue mark. It wasn't a glue failure, rather the foam was actually tearing. I was informed after that heat that I needed to glue all sidewalls of all tires to keep this from happening, even though the car wasn't attempting to traction roll, (which is the only time I've ever glued sidewalls prior to this). After gluing the sidewalls, we never had another problem the remainder of the week. He qualified 9th, and drove it up to 3rd, "rubbing doors" a bit with others on his way to the front. Even after the contact in the main, tires and sidewalls were fine... I attended the Int'l Classic at St. Roch in Canada a couple of weeks ago. Top 3 1/12th cars were all on BSR's new larger diameter wheels, and none had tire issues that weren't self inflicted. Hope this helps... Todd Putnam Putnam Propulsion Jack Rimer 04-10-2007, 03:01 PM Since we guarantee all of our tires 100% for gluing defects and we have yet to have a single tire returned for that reason, I can only assume you are very unlucky or very wrong. We use the same glueing process and glue as some of the other brands you mentioned. Why would our tires be more prone to coming unglued? In fact, this is not a problem I have even heard about. Do you think these top drivers would risk losing a race by running a tire that was coming apart right out of the box? Contrary to what you may believe, the reason the top drivers run JACO is BECAUSE of the quality and consistency not DESPITE it. These guys are free to run whatever they want and they choose JACO. Jack, I heard Danny has been doing years of some intense glue research for you in pool halls throughout Canada...because if it can hold felt to slate, it can hold foam to plastic...:cool:;) -TP Josh Cyrul 04-10-2007, 03:21 PM Burbs - I think it's funny that Jaco's gluing process stinks yet we are able to run over 70+mph with Jaco's 1/8 tires for an hour long race with no chunking and no failures. In fact, other companies have been so impressed with Jaco's rubber quality and gluing machines that they have turned to Jaco to produce their tires for them.... Other companies who do mount the tires themselves still buy their rubber from Jaco.... As far as the Novak Race - that track/traction level gave us all fits. For some reason, that track would tear the outsides edges of ANY tire - especially if you ran them too big. We tried adding camber and then the inside edge would be torn as well. We tried different glues and all sorts of things - square edges, rounded edges - nothing really mattered. This had nothing to do with the rim/foam or 2-stage as this never happens at any other track I've been to..... The Novak Race is definatly not a good example as everyone had tire trouble there..... speedxl 04-10-2007, 04:01 PM I dont think a manufacture needs to claim how good they are if they are winning! I think who ever is in the market for tires should look at what is working at thier home track. And or run what ever looks great with their paint scheme!! Orange works great!  BIGKAHUNA 04-10-2007, 04:19 PM Where Can I Get Jaco Tires???? IndyRC_Racer 04-10-2007, 04:45 PM Let's interpret some of the BS on this thread. Sponsored racers love X brand tire- sponsored racers say they love whatever tire they are given for free/discount. If X tire is winning then that's all the proof you need about it's quality - X tire is winning in part due to x battery and x chassis and x top level driver. Put all those components together with Y tire and I'd bet that Y tire would win just as often. Average racers such as myself don't appreciate being talked down to or force fed "buy our stuff because it wins" . Average racers have a budget and can't afford to run tires 1 or 2 times before throwing them away. What the average racer wants to know is how to get the most bang for our buck. Tires are a big part of any racing budget. At least we got an explaination that in high bite conditions that ANY tire at ANY size will chunk and the solution was to glue the sidewalls - Thank you Josh Cyrul and Todd Putnum. This is the type of information that average racers need to know. Jack Rimer 04-10-2007, 05:11 PM Average racers such as myself don't appreciate being talked down to or force fed "buy our stuff because it wins" . Average racers have a budget and can't afford to run tires 1 or 2 times before throwing them away. What the average racer wants to know is how to get the most bang for our buck. Tires are a big part of any racing budget. Average manufacturers don't take too kindly to getting bashed in an open forum. I have every right to defend myself against what I feel are untrue and misleading statements. Why don't you jump on the guy who claims our tires come unglued? My only recourse is to prove him wrong by backing up my argument with facts, ie. race results. Nobody is force feeding you anything. I'm just trying to stick up for my company. I won't be criticized for that. Anyone who gave a shit would do the same. IndyRC_Racer 04-10-2007, 06:00 PM Please don't misunderstand, I'm not questioning the quality of any tire including Jaco. However, I am questioning the response that was given to the issue. I'm an average racer. I read the forums to help make my decisions on my next purchases. I know forums are a place to vent. However, a racer brought up their experience about a particular tire at a particular event and a problem they were having with it. The response they got from the manufacturer was that the tire is in the winner circle so that should be proof enough that it is a good tire. It took 2 other racers to point out that this particular type of issue has affected all manufacturer's tires. I can't speak for everyone, but when the average racer can only afford a few sets of tires and a sponsored driver has 10x that many sets then can you blame the average racer for being concerned about tire chunking? How many sets of tires did the winner at a big event pay for at full price? How many sets of tires did that winner go through or throw away at that race event? When the average racer has to pay FULL PRICE for every tire then quality does matter. All manufacturers have the right to respectfully defend the quality of their product. However, suggesting that we should be looking in the winner circle instead of the trash can isn't really defending the quality of your product. It is simply diverting attention from the fact that there are issues with all tires at events where there is a lot of traction. As far as the tires coming unglued, why didn't someone from the manufacturer of the tire suggest that the tire be returned to determine if it was defective? Perhaps they were too busy analyzing race results? Jack Rimer 04-10-2007, 06:11 PM The fact that there were issues with our tire, in particular, and not the other brands mentioned, raises questions about the validity of the statement. If these issues exist under certain conditions for our tire, why then, do they supposedly not exist for other brands? It is very easy to come on and attempt to promote a product at the expense of another product. I just won't have it be MY product. We are not perfect, but we certainly are no worse than the competition. This is my point. To illustrate my point, I wield the only weapon of substance...results. swtour 04-10-2007, 06:44 PM Wow...is there really THIS MUCH interest in 1/12th scale tires...or is this something that has been pent up for a while between racers and tire companies? I don't run 1/12th scale... I do however run 1/10th, and am in the process of changing over to T/M's wheels and tires. Why? A) I don't like ORANGE WHEELS B) I have BLACK Jaco's, BSR's and TRC's that if I clip a dot, or brush the wall..the wheels SHATTER. I have been at this for 22 years, and NEVER have I had wheels SHATTER like this...and I've crashed HARD alot over the years. DO I SEND THESE IN when I'm dissatisfied? HELL NO - I either toss them in a box, or in the trash and grab another pair and finish the days events. When I look for tires for the NEXT Race...I think twice about buying from the same MFG. I still have four or 5 sets of Jaco FRONTS w/ purple foams on them NIB and I'm down to 4 or 5 sets of TRC Magenta Rears (on black wheels)...but I'm afraid to run them due to the last 4 or 5 sets breaking so bad. I recently purchased 15 sets of the ORANGE RC4LESS wheels, but haven't used ANY of them yet...because as I stated, I really don't like the ORANGE wheels...but I will use these LATER this month when I head to PHOENIX for the RCSports Mania's Pan Car Shootout... WHAT HAPPENED to the old GOOD WHEELS we had that had LESS PLASTIC LOOK and MORE Nylon in them? speedxl 04-10-2007, 08:09 PM Buy R/C4less tires and no drama!  Jack Rimer 04-10-2007, 09:20 PM SWtour- Try this: drop the tires in a bucket of water for a couple days. It won't hurt them. It softens the rims up and makes them less brittle. It might work. rhodopsine 04-10-2007, 09:58 PM To me, it's a bit of a catch 22... We want rims that are both light, and stiff. That usually equals to rims that will shatter when hit since they can't absorb the energy. swtour 04-10-2007, 10:02 PM Jack, I'll give that a try w/ the sets I have left...at this point...NOTHING can hurt~ ovalmaster 04-11-2007, 01:26 AM I run 1/12 scale oval weekly at a little bull-ring track with a run-line of 83 feet. Unfortunately, when there is a wreck most of the field gets caught up in it because of the size of the track. The track is rough on tires because it is a looped carpet (not ozite). Furthermore, we are forced to rub fenders a little to get by a fellow racer. I use Jaco tires exclusively and I have yet to chunk a single tire during the last 8 years of racing!! I have read the above posts and truly question if these stories have been made-up or grossly exaggerated! I cannot believe that Jaco tires are more prone to chunking than any other brand. Again, I repeat....." I have NEVER chunked a Jaco 1/12 scale tire during the past 8 years of weekly short track racing". Jaco has been around for the longest time and is an innovator in the RC tire industry. Its owner, Jack Rimer, is a stand-up guy that has always stood behind his products. Antonio De Nino, Montreal, Quebec charger01 04-11-2007, 09:09 AM Wow! I only started this thread to see what other racers like. Guess I know now! Todd Putnam 04-11-2007, 09:43 AM Wow! I only started this thread to see what other racers like. Guess I know now! R/C racers sure are a passionate bunch...I hope you got some usefull info through all of this... charger01 04-11-2007, 09:56 AM Todd- yes I did! I would like to thank you and everyone else who took the time to post. By the way, just picked up one of your new stockers and wow! That sucker really hauls the mail! IndyRC_Racer 04-12-2007, 05:58 PM I would like to publicly thank Jack Rimer from Jaco for responding to the concerns that I had addressed in this forum. I have been messaging him directly through Hobbytalk and I appreciate that he has taken the time to communicate his opinions to me. Brian Smith tanktruck88 04-13-2007, 03:44 PM I have had trouble with the RC 4Less tires. They fit very tighly on the rear hubs of my 12L3. I had to take an exacto knife to the center of them to make them fit. If I didn't, my diff would come apart after a few laps. Once I enlarged the center they worked great. The orange rims look kind of neat on an all black car. speedxl 04-13-2007, 04:11 PM I have had trouble with the RC 4Less tires. They fit very tighly on the rear hubs of my 12L3. The orange rims look kind of neat on an all black car. Tank a few people have had to do that because of their diff thrust assy. The 12l3 if I am not mistaken has concave washers that dont let the wheel slide on easily. Also the wheels are designed like that so when you put them on a tire truer they spin TRUE! Some manufactures wheels fit loose so they wobble a little on the tire truer. ( my expeiriance and not flaming anyother brands!!!) disclaimer! What Diff assy are you using stock or Irs? tanktruck88 04-13-2007, 09:08 PM As far as I know it is the stock diff. I bought the car used, but the way the diff is put together it agrees with the manual, so I am pretty sure it is stock. speedxl 04-13-2007, 09:19 PM @tank then try finding someone at your track with a IRS diff and see if it also happens. I have an Irs diff with slappmaster thrust bearing and have NO problems. rcjunkie 04-13-2007, 11:25 PM Anyone have any opinions on 12th scale tires? what about the new crc pro-cuts? Which compounds last the longest? CRC Pro Cuts are really great, oval or road. A typical oval setup is pink rears and a purple RF with a magenta LF. I like them because for club racing you don't need to true them. The Pro Cuts won the Snowbirds in both road course events for 1/12th scale and I think they won oval the year before. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
