What is flooding an engin? How do you stop it.

flooding an engine is when you give it too much fuel/throttle when trying to start it. by pulling on the throttle while trying to start it, it puts too much fuel into the engine and therefore "floods it" to stop it, only pull the throttle an couple of times than start it. or prime it if it has a primer button.
