Per a number of requests we have opened a Oval Spec racing forum. Enjoy!

Cool - I know there are quite a few spec racers in the Pa/NJ area.

If someone was to start a brushless spec class, which brushless motor should we use to be somewhere between stock & 19 turn?

Novak motors have become the norm. The 13.5 is faster than stock. I havn't ran the new "pro" version of it yet. It will be faster being that they have sintered arms and ribbed cans which will disipate the heat more and allow more gearing

i'm gonna have to say the 13.5

I can't wait until we go brushless with spec packs. 13.5 makes the most sense to me.

doubledeuce your spec pacts will not work. have tried already. if you gear for speed pacts last about 2.5 min. if gear for run time they are very slow. they were tried on a flat track "D" shape about 320 ft. these were 4-cell also, 6 will might work better.

Yep, Flipper's right. A 13.5 geared for speed will only last about 2.5 minutes when 4 cell Spec packs are used. When you gear it to last, then it's about 3/4 of a second slower than the current 21 turn Spec motor.

So, is there brushless motor option that will work with 4 cell spec packs?

We've been running a spec brushless class at Freddies in Ravenna OH both last season and this season with great success. The rules have been the stock 4300 motor w/SS ESC and 4 cell spec packs w/Nastruck body, it's about 2 laps faster than the 21 turn motor, the track is about 135' flat carpet. Steel City Hobbies in Pittsburgh has also been running a similar class with great success.

Read this about a new brushless motor coming out for 6-cell/LiPo packs.

This should certainly open the door for more Lipo/brushless classes and a lot cheaper racing for all of us.

you guys running 4300 spec, is the car wild in the beginning of the race? are you lifting a lot at the beginning and holding it wide open toward the end? have you ran them on any tracks smaller than you posted above? just curious, i'd hate to see the wrong motor be chosen.

petro, whatta ya say we throw a 4200 pack in your truck with a spec motor this weekend so we can compare it to 4200 13.5 brushless??? i'd do it but i'm not bringing mine this week.

trucks are right around 2.50-2.60 for a 135-155 runline tracks. then you adjust to make runtime !!

What are most of you guys running as Spec tires for carpet oval racing ??

I don't believe Trinity is giving this much focus anymore

we have an open tire rule in our spec class.

so do we, but bsr makes some nice spec tires.

Phil,
On a the banked track at Classic(about 190') we're rolling them out at about 2.4-2.6, on a shorter flat track about 2.2-2.4, we've even ran 5 min.

We tested a new wind from NOVAK this weekend looking for the PERFECT replacement for 4 cell/ Stock using B/L and Lipos. The motor we used was still too hot, outrunning the 4 cell 4300 and a 19t 4 cell cars.

Novak is going to build a couple more for us to test, and I think we'll be good to go...

BSR has been a great help in getting our SPEC program up and running with great success at Racing City Hobbies (RCH). John is a great guy and his product is second to none. Awesome bang for the buck, and he has a great selection of compounds to choose from. We chose four compounds for our racers to use, green and or gold rears, & silver right front green left front they have worked out great. Flat track Calandra carpet 115 foot groove.

I saw the spec class run there and I have to say, most cars are really close. just the way it should be.

I run that class . It is a blast, very close racing and cheap to run for the winter.
