have a kohler 10 hp that will not start. has good spark, pour gas into spark plug hole and will not try to start. compression is 50 lbs. is that too low for it to start? could use some advice thanks chexeye :confused:

WOAH! 50lbs? waytoo low. tighten the head bolts but do not over do them and strip the threads, check for a valve thats stuck up a little by the piston, and make sure your gaskets are not burnt out or just no gasket at all. then check the piston rings, maybe there too small or big/loose and let air pass though them, last of all check the spark plug, tighten the plug but do not overtorque it or stip the mountings. ony

75+ lbs can start, 75 is ok starting and the more compression the easier to start. ony :thumbsup:

oh yes if it is 2 cycle make sure your pouring mixed oil / gas into the cylinder, if u get better compression that is :)

Ps what did you use to check compression? and if those dont work.. or u get good compression, but it still wont start check carb and make sure your not putting too much gas into cylinder

did you check the threads of the spark plug hole if there striped you will loose compression

ps make sure rings are tight, and the piston doesnt move in its socket or else air will pas thru it
