That's sad. A part of The Late Show that's sad to see go. Zorro 03-21-2007, 10:07 PM Man I thought he'd died years ago. I was a very big fan of Late Night with David Letterman in the early years and I don't think anything made me laugh harder than the segments with Larry "Bud" Melman. I remember a segment that lasted for weeks where Dave sent Larry on some god-forsaken trek in a Winnebago all the way from New York to the wilds of South America. Melman would phone in every night to report on his trip and by a couple of weeks in he was clearly miserable and begging to come home. By the time he got to South America he was literally crying on the phone - and it was no act! It was sort of cruel but it was brutally funny at the same time. They must have paid him well and he must have enjoyed the limelight because he lasted on that show for years. ChrisW 03-21-2007, 10:34 PM Yea, I figured he was already DOA as well. I sometimes wondered whether he "got" his bits. But it was obvious that he enjoyed them, and like Zorro said, enjoyed the limelight. We were in the Late Show audience once, and were fortunate to see a Larry "Bud" Melman walkthrough... PhilipMarlowe 03-22-2007, 08:01 AM Sad news, though like others I thought he had passed away long ago. He was really funny during Letterman's golden years at NBC. Just Plain Al 03-22-2007, 08:34 PM There will be no funeral service for DeForest, who left no survivors. I find this extremely saddening. scotpens 03-22-2007, 10:12 PM The man was a natural clown. He didn't have to do anything to be funny except just be himself. We will all miss him. terryr 03-23-2007, 12:39 AM I think I'll have some Toast On A Stick. jsnmech18 03-24-2007, 08:52 AM I find this extremely saddening. Agreed. Sad indeed. j PerfesserCoffee 03-24-2007, 06:01 PM I've been enjoying his CD for years now. What a genius! He's one of those fellows who was so good at what he did that everyone thought he was for real. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
